As the weather cooled down last week, I decided to venture further away from home and run to less frequented locations. It has been ages since I went to Shakuji Park, camera in hand, to absorb the beauty of nature and breathe in some fresh air. The park has not changed much but its tranquility and otherworldliness still work and help regain balance and strengthen mental capacity. It’s just time well spent. If you’re ever on a Seibu-ikebukuro train and have some time to spare, Shakuji Park is only about 5 minutes on foot from Shakuji-koen Station.

Last weekend I braved a 2-hour trip north all the way to Kamine amusement park and zoo in Ibaragi. Quite possibly my first time to Ibaragi (I can't remember to be honest).

I was told to expect an 'old' amusement park, but I was still shocked at actually how old it was. Still I braved a few rides and I'm still alive to tell the tale.

The amusement park is towards the top of the mountain, while at the bottom is a zoo! They have all kinds of animals there including lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants, etc., but my favourite by far were these little monkeys!

They were allowed to roam freely and come up close to the zoo visitors. The one pictured above was very curious about people and often ventured close to us.

If you're ever in the area I recommend going (just not in the summer) as the price is reasonable and there is actually a lot to see and do there.

Being a coffee enthusiast, I'd love to see more alternatives to the omnipresent Starbucks available in Tokyo. I mean alternatives that offer more traditional coffee brews and stay true to the original ways of coffee making. I'm particularly thinking of macchiatos and cappuccinos that have been redefined in the minds of many people by the coffee giant as sugary treats of steamed milk laced with barely discernible amount of coffee. Well, here's what I found recently at a Kinokunya shop near Tokyo's Kinuta Park. It's only a coffee-making vending machine but it was absolutely worth stopping by for its satisfying coffee flavour. I'm looking forward to some actual Costa coffee shops cropping up around Tokyo in the future to bring along a cozy setting for our coffee habits.

Not a surprise to regulars of this coffee chain I'm sure.

The humble but stalwart Coffee Jelly has recently become a favourite of mine over this summer. What's better than a hit of caffeine and ice-cream - or soft serve ice-cream if you insist.

Now the temperature appears to be dropping slightly does it mean that the autumn is just around the corner? I shall have to find a new coffee break favourite soon.
