チャンクの区切り方

前回に引き続き、どうやって意味の区切り（チャンク）を
見つけたらいいかをやっていきましょう。
切り方に絶対的なルールはないですが、いくつかの目安があります。

(1)前置詞句（＝副詞や形容詞）の前と後

(2) カンマ（，），セミコロン（；），コロン（：），ダッシュ（―）の前

(3) that節，疑問詞節，whether節の前

(4)関係代名詞［関係副詞］の前

(5) to不定詞の前

(6) 接続詞（because, ifなど）の前

(7) 目的語や補語が長い場合にはそれらの前

(8) 主語が動名詞句や疑問詞句のように長い場合はその後

（私がくじけずにやってこれたのはただ一つ、
自分のやっている仕事が好きだという、
その気持ちがあったからです。
皆さんも自分がやって好きなことを見つけなきゃいけない。）

thatとwhatがたくさん入っていますね。
チャンクとして区切れるところにスラッシュを入れるとこうなります。
 
I'm convinced / that the only thing / that kept me going / was
/ that I loved / what I did.// You've got to find / what you love.//

スラッシュを入れたところで、ワンテンポおいて発音するとネイティブっぽくなります。
全部区切った後ではなく、区切りながら音読していく感覚です。
パーツ単位に意味を把握していきながら音読していきましょう。

Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.

And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.

So keep looking. Don't settle.
