this is a mix cd by miles maeda who released so many mix cds and tapes (and of course, many records). as the title says, this is the brillian one which tells what the so-called "chicago house" sounds like and where the "chicago house" is going. please listen to the cd anyway.

miles, originally from hawaii, moved to chicago and then san diego, is also a yoga instructor besides the production and dj. years ago, when i lived in the states, he came over to st. louis to play at a party. he stayed at my apartment and i still remember that i heard some slapping sounds (some like slapping his body with towel) inside the shower room while he was taking a shower :) he is a swon friend of mark farina's and derrick carter's. all of them used to work at gramaphone records .

he has come over to japan to play several times. but in tokyo...

数多くのミックスｃｄやテープをリリース（勿論、多数のレコードも）しているマイルス・マエダのミックスｃｄ。タイトル通り、いわゆる「シカゴ・ハウス」というものがどんなものか、そして「シカゴ・ハウス」がどういった方向に向かっているのか、これを聴けば一発で分かるというスグレモノ。とりあえずは聴いてみてください。

マイルスはハワイ～シカゴを経て、現在はサンディエゴでレコードのプロダクションやｄｊの傍ら、ヨガのインストラクターもやっています。随分前、アメリカに住んでいた頃、ｄｊのためにセントルイスに来た際、うちのアパートに泊まったのですが、朝マイルスがシャワーを浴びていると中から「パーン、パーン!!」という激しく叩く音（タオルで体を叩いているような音）が聞こえてきて驚いたのを覚えてます（笑）。デリック・カーターやマーク・ファリーナの盟友。みんな、その昔、グラマフォン・レコーズ で働いていました。

プレイのために、日本に何度か来ているみたいです。でも東京・・・。

it took me a week to be here even after coming back from overseas business trip due to the fact that my modem broke and needed to be replaced...

i will write about what i bought (records) and saw in chicago where i went to as well as what i'd been writing here.

いや～、海外出張から帰って来ても、ココに戻ってくるまでに更に1週間かかってしまいました。というのもモデムが壊れちゃいまして、交換するのに1週間もかかってしまったのです。

this is the mix tape by robbie hardkiss who is considered as the youngest brother of so-called "hardkiss brothers." if i remember correctly, scott (hardkiss) played synth and did some effects while robbie did live mix. i got this tape from wade randolph hampton, who was like a manager of hardkiss and was also a downtempo / ambient dj when they came over to st.louis to play at a party. overall, there are many tracks with echo effects with heavy bass lines and scott's effects add more flavor. what should i describe the genres of tracks...la funk mob was in, break-beat stuff was in, etc. why don't you try to listen to the live mix . i really like the stuff around that time.

「ハードキス兄弟」の三男坊的存在だったロビー・ハードキスのミックス・テープ。確か、スコット（ハードキス）がライブでシンセ＆エフェクトをかけてたはず。このテープは、ハードキスの面々がセントルイスにプレイしに来た際、かれらのマネージャー的存在であり自身もダウンテンポ／アンビエント系ｄｊだったウェイド・ランドフル・ハンプトンから貰った。全般的にエコーがかかったトラックが多く、かつヘヴィーなベースが絡み、そこにスコットのエフェクトという、これでもか！といった内容。トラックのジャンル的にはなんと言いましょうか、ラ・ファンク・モブあり、ブレイク・ビーツあり、その他諸々。とりあえずは、聴いてみてください 。当時のこの手の曲、好きなんですよね～。

if i remember correctly, i bought this mix tape at the record store i frequently went to at that time... but i kinda remember scott gave me thiss..... anyway, this mix tape starts with leftfield's "release the pressure" and goes to break beat stuff, dub house, etc. while mixing his own tracks, and finished the mix with rolling stones' "sympathy for the devil." i wallow in this tape... scott designs almost all the label designs of his records and mix cd&tapes. seems like he likes dali.

確か、当時行きつけのレコ屋さんだった「ディープ・グルーブス」で購入したような・・・。でも、本人からもらったような気がしないでもない。レフト・フィールドの「リリース・ザ・プレッシャー」から始まり、自身のトラックを混ぜながらブレイク・ビーツ、ダブ・ハウス系、その他色々、そして最後はローリング・ストーンズの「シンパシー・フォー・ザ・デビル」で終わり。ひたれるミックスです。彼のレコードやミックスｃｄのレーベルはほぼ全て自分でデザインを手掛けてる。ダリ好きみたいです。

this is the one i was really looking for at that time. my roommate (he was also a dj, still??) gave me this copy. i was so happy. in fact, i still remember that i played this so many times. tranquility bass is the unit formed by michael kandel who set up "exist dance" label with tom chasteen. this copy surely is one of my top 5 downtempo stuff at that time. tracks are very much pleasing with ethnic kinda vocal on slow rythm.

当時ずっと探していたが見つけられず、そんなときにルームメイト（彼もｄｊ。まだやってるのか？）からもらった1枚。非常に嬉しかった。ひたすらかけまくった記憶があります。トム・チャスティーンとともに「エグジスト・ダンズ」レーベルを立ち上げたマイケル・カンデルのユニット。当時のダウン・テンポと言えば、自分の中では必ずトップ5に入っていた1枚。ゆ～ったりとした曲調に民族的なボーカルが絡んだとても気持ちの良い曲。

henry was in the hall way of the hotel (very close to russell square station) i stayed in london. henry is used at hotels just like that. the angle is good with his upward glance. he sure is a good worker.

ロンドン行ったときに泊まったホテル（あのラッセル・スクエア駅のすぐ近所）の廊下にヘンリー君はいました。向こうでは当たり前のようにホテルなどでも使われてるんですね。上向き加減の構図がグーです。働き者。

based in st. louis (still?), the hot house sessions are the unit consists of dj and acoustic instruments such as percussions, vibraphone, trumpet, etc.

the dj (alexis) used to be an organizer called that girl productions and threw parties and invited many djs nationwide. while many other parties got busted for some reasons, her parties had never busted and the quality of each parties were so high. i too had played at her parties.

anyway, their 12" had been sold in japan too but sold out in short period of time. too bad i could not get one.

with the conept of afro-house fusion in their mind, they actively play at lounges, restaurants, miami winter music conference, an event at zoo, etc. i wish they come to japan.

セントルイスを拠点としている（多分今も？）、ｄｊとパーカッション、ヴィブラフォン、トランペット等、生楽器で構成されているユニット。

ｄｊ（アレクシス）は随分前、ザット・ガール・プロダクションというオーガナイザーをやっていてパーティーで様々なｄｊを呼んでいました。多くのパーティーが様々な理由から途中で中止を余儀なくされていた中、彼女のパーティーはそういったことがなく、そしてクオリティーの高いパーティーでした。彼女のパーティーでプレイしたこともあります。楽しかったなぁ～。

さて、このホット・ハウス・セッションズですが、日本でも12インチが販売されたものの、あっという間に売り切れたようです。自分も買い逃しました。残念。

アフロ・ハウス・フュージョンをコンセプトにラウンジやレストラン、毎年マイアミで開催されているウィンター・ミュージック・カンファレンス、はたまた動物園のイベントなど幅広く活躍しています。日本に来れるといいんですが・・・。

i bought this cd from the vending machine in fabric when i went to london. it starts with "Wow, that's cool" kinda 4-beat stuff, then moves onto his taste of middle east or whatever you name it with some essence of london taste. the mix goest to downtempo, jungle and so on. with regard to mix, there are many cut-ins/outs but it does not bother at all. it makes me feel comfy but gives me groove too.

ロンドンに行ったときにファブリック内にある自販機で購入。「おっ？いい感じ」な4つ打ちから始まり、彼特有の中東系というかなんというか、それにロンドン・テイストをちりばめたようなトラックが続き、ダウンテンポ、そしてジャングル、その他色々という内容。ミックスそのものは、カットイン・アウトが多かったりするんですが、全体を聞いてる限り、全然違和感ありません。聞いてて気持ちよくもあり、そしてアップにもさせてくれます。
