ユー・キャン」を見ましたよ。
前にも見たことがありますが、

サウンドトラックの中から
スタン・ゲッツ＆
ジョアン・ジルベルトの
「イパネマの娘」です。
劇中では、ハリウッドの
トロピカルムード満点のモーテルで
主人公が階段を上るシーンで
流れてきます。
このシークエンスは痛快ですね。(笑)

歌詞は、海へ歩いて行く美しい女性への
切ない届かぬ恋の物語です。
元々、ブラジル国内では
ポルトガル語で歌われていましたが、
米国内に売り込むには
英語の歌詞がどうしても必要でした。
両方の歌詞を比べると
元のポルトガル語の歌詞に比べると
だいぶ情緒が欠けます。
ポルトガル語はサッパリなので、
英訳したものを和訳しています。
ちなみに「イパネマ」とはブラジルの
リオデジャネイロ市内の南にある
美しいビーチとして有名だそうですが、
皮肉にも原住民のトゥピ族の言葉では
本来「臭い湖」を意味するそうです。
本当に臭いかどうかは知りません。(笑)
歌っているのは、
ジョアン・ジルベルトと当時の奥さんの
アストラッド・ジルベルトです。
この歌がボサ・ノヴァの代表曲と
なったのと同時に
彼女の代表曲にもなりました。
先月、6月5日に亡くなりメディアでは
ボサ・ノヴァの女王として
訃報を取り上げられていました。
