■ settle down with
「･･･と共に腰を落ち着ける」という意味です。settle downには、calm downの意味があります。
■ take a breather
「一息つく」、「一休みする」という意味で、take a short breakということです。
■ be exposed to
「･･･にさらされる」という意味で、be subjected to と同義です。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
It is important to expose children to art.
■ That's all well and good.
「それでも結構だ」、「それはそれで仕方がない」という意味です。
■ pass off as
「･･･としてまかり通る」という意味です。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
She tries to pass herself off as a history expert.
■ sort the wheat from the chaff:
「良いものとそうでないものを分ける」という意味で、separate the wheat from the chaffとも言います。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
He can separate the wheat from the chaff among job applicants very quickly.
■ have been down this road before
「これを以前経験したことがある」という意味です。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
Sales have fallen., but the company has been down this road before.
