本日の実践ビジネス英語は、A Word to the Wise（助言をひと言）の第２回目です。
■ look at
「目を向ける」という意味で、examineとかconsiderと同義です。次のような例文が挙げられていました。
She is looking at getting a graduate degree.
■ under the circumstances
「このような状況下では」という意味で、given the circumstancesとも言います。circumstancesと常に複数形で用います。
■ ultimately
「結局のところ」、「」最終的に」という意味で、at the end of some process or period of timeということです。次のような例文が挙げられていました。
Ultimately, the negotiations were unsuccessful.
■ go for
「･･･しようとする」という意味で、attempt to achieveということです。次のような例文が挙げられていました。
She has decided to go for a raise this year.
なお、go forには、「売る」という意味もあり、次のような例文が挙げられていました。
How much does a new house in Tokyo go for?
■ wish someone the best of luck
「（人）の幸運を祈る」という意味です。
■ transition
名詞で「移行」、「転換」という意味です。なお、動詞としても用いられます。次のような例文が挙げられていました。
It can be difficult transitioning to management.
■ banish words like "awesome"and"like"
「awesomeやlikeといった言葉を追放する」という意味です。インターネット上に、most irritating words and phrasesといった言葉のリストに、必ずと言っていいほど登場するのがこの２語だそうです。
