本日は、実践ビジネス英語 Sharing Too Much?（シェアしすぎかも）の第5回目です。
■ waking hours
「起きている時間」の意味です。 waking hourと単数形で使われる場合もあります。.
■ ground rules
「基本原則」の意味で、basic or fundamental rules ということです。
■ less rather than more
「多いより少ない方が良い」という意味で、less is moreとも言います。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
I believe that less is more when it comes to writing.
■ cloud someone's judgment
「判断を曇らせる」という意味で、cloud someone's focus とか cloud someone's mindといった表現もあります。
■ spill the beans
「うっかり秘密を漏らす」 という意味です。同様の表現に、let the cat out of the bagがあります。
■ keep something under wraps
「～を秘密にしておく」という意味で、keep secret とか keep unrevealedということです。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
He decided to quit last month but kept it under wraps until today.
■ tell a white lie
「悪意のない嘘をつく」という意味です。
■ excuse oneself
「（断って）席を外す」という意味です。
■ put someone on hold
「（人）をお預けにする[待たせる]」という意味で、電話口で相手を待たせるような場合によく使います。また、「遅れ」や「一時中断」の状況を示す場合にも用います。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
Production was delayed so we put the product launch on hold until next quarter.
