「人気を得る」、「流行する」という意味で、become popularと言い換え可能です。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
The company hopes its new app will catch on among teenagers.
■ in a big way
「大々的に」という意味で、on a large scaleと言い換え可能です。以下のような例文があります。
He's changing his life in a big way：quitting his job and starting his own business.
■ I understand the inspiration came from China.
my grasp of the situation isという意味です。
■ hit upon an idea
「考えを思いつく」という意味で、hit on an ideaとかcome up with an ideaともいいます。
He has hit upon an idea for a smartphone app.
■ take a leaf from soneone's book
「人のやることをまねする」という意味です。turn over a new leafといえば、「心機一転する」という意味です。
■ what's this I hear about
「私が耳にする･･･は何ですか」という意味で、口語ではよく使われるようです。
I've heard about something and I want to know what's going onという状況で用いられるようです。.
例文としては次のようなものが挙げられていました。
What's this I hear about new computers for the office?
■ gym-allergic
「ジム嫌いの」という意味で、先週出てきたgym-averseと同じ意味です。
■ proponent
「支持者」、「提唱者」の意味で、反対者は、opponentです。
■ be up to
「･･･をやりこなせる」という意味です。例文として次のようなものが挙げられていました。
Justin tried his best but he wasn't up to the job.
