(CNN) -- Obesity is a bigger health crisis globally than hunger,
and the leading cause of disabilities around the world,
according to a new report published Thursday in the British medical journal The Lancet.

Nearly 500 researchers from 50 countries compared health data
from 1990 through 2010 for the Global Burden of Disease report,
revealing what they call a massive shift in global health trends.

:

"We discovered that there's been a huge shift in mortality.

Kids who used to die from infectious disease are now doing extremely well with immunization," said Ali Mokdad, co-author of the study and professor of global health at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, which led the collaborative project.

"However, the world is now obese and we're seeing the impact of that."

The report revealed that every country, with the exception of those in sub-Saharan Africa, faces alarming obesity rates
-- an increase of 82% globally in the past two decades.

Middle Eastern countries are more obese than ever, seeing a 100% increase since 1990.

"The so-called 'Western lifestyle' is being adapted all around the world, and the impacts are all the same," Mokdad said.

The health burden from high body mass indexes now exceeds that
due to hunger, according to the report.

body mass index:

And for the first time, noncommunicable diseases like diabetes, stroke
and heart disease top the list of leading causes of years spent sick or injured.

Toothy prehistoric lizard named Obamadon

after smiling president

(Reuters) -

Researchers have named a newly discovered, prehistoric lizard

"Obamadon gracilis" in honor of the 44th president's toothy grin.

The small, insect-eating lizard was first discovered in eastern Montana

in 1974, but a recent re-examination showed

the fossil had been wrongly classified as a Leptochamops denticulatus

and was in fact a new species, researchers told Reuters on Tuesday.

Obamadon gracilis was one of nine newly discovered species reported on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

In naming the new species, scientists from Yale and Harvard universities

combined the Latin "Obamadon" for "Obama's teeth"

and "gracilis," which means slender.

"The lizard has these very tall, straight teeth

and Obama has these tall, straight incisors and a great smile,"

said Nick Longrich, a paleontologist at the school in New Haven, Connecticut.

It was believed to have lived during the Cretaceous period,

which began 145.5 million years ago.

Along with many dinosaurs from that era,

the lizard died out about 65 million years ago

when a giant asteroid struck earth, scientists say.

Cretaceous (period):

asteroid: 小惑星

Seoul (CNN) --

All you might feel is someone brush by you and a slight pin prick.

But very quickly you would be suffering muscle paralysis

followed by suffocation.

You would be dead within a very short period of time.

paralysis : 麻痺

suffocation : 窒息

This is the deadly effect of just one of the weapons

found on a failed North Korean assassin last year

on the busy streets of Seoul, now shown exclusively to CNN.

Disguised to look like a Parker ballpoint pen,

it contains a poison needle

and is practically impossible to identify as a weapon.

The second pen shoots a poison-filled bullet which penetrates the skin

and releases the toxin and the third weapon is a flashlight,

loaded with up to three bullets.

They all look completely innocuous but all three will kill.
