Jump on the bandwagon！？

It's time for SEL!!

今日は英語の諺を一つ講義しますね。

ご紹介する言い方は、英語上級者の方々でもお目にかけたことがないかと思います。

"Jump on the bandwagon"

直訳すれば、「楽隊車に乗る」という意味です。

音楽を奏でる物や人の集団には普通誰でも群がりますよね？

つまり、みんながやっていることを自分も積極的に行うことを"jump on the bandwagon"というのです。

ただ注意してほしいのは、この諺は良い意味で「時流に乗る」というだけの場合に使われるわけではなく、「是非を問うことなく自分も時代や世間などに合わせる」という悪いことをあらわすときにも使われるということです。


（例）When the stock prices plummeted, many shareholders got panicked and started to jump on the bandwagon selling their bonds like their surroundings.
（試訳）株価が急落したとき、多くの人達がパニックに陥り、株主たちは、時流に乗り、他の株主たちと同様に自分達の株を売った。


このように周りの不安をさらに助長する意味合いでも使われるので、英文作成もしは英訳するときにこの言い方を使用したいのでしたら、意味をしっかりと理解した上で使ってください。：）

レ・エレファンツ優勝（The Elephants crowned as Champion）

アフリカ大陸ナンバー１を決めるアフリカネイションズカップ２０１５はコートジボワール優勝で幕を閉じました。
Africa Cup of Nations 2015, a tournament to decide African champion, ended having Côte d'Ivoire as a winner.

決勝戦は強豪同士らしく０－０のままＰＫ戦（９－８）までもつれ込みました。
As this match was between favorites, the game was extended to penalty shootout (9-8) without seeing a goal in 120 minutes.

サドンデスで最後はＧＫ同士が互いに一本ずつ蹴ってレ・エレファンツ（コートジボワールサッカー代表の愛称）が２度目のアフリカ王者に輝きました。
The goal keepers of both sided kicked the last shot in the sudden death phase, and the victor was finally decided and the Elephants, nickname of Côte d'Ivoire soccer team, reigned as African champion for the second time since 1992.

僕自身ここまでのチーム状態から判断してガーナが僅差で勝利すると予想しましたが、はずれてしまいましたね。
Judging from the conditions of both teams until the final, I forecast that Ghana will claim the title.  But my guess didn't come true.

両国は、コートジボワールが初優勝したときの１９９２年も決勝戦で対戦しており、同じくＰＫ戦までもつれ込んでいます。
These two faced each other at the final of 1992 and this game also entered to the penalties.

Ｗ杯で日本と互角の戦いを繰り広げたチームの優勝は、日本サッカーの世界レベルでの高さを証明してくれるので、非常に喜ばしいです。
I am delighted to have the team, which Japan went head-to-head in the Word Cup last summer, winning the competition.  Because having it as a champion proves how the level of Japanese soccer is high internationally.

サッカールーズ初のアジア制覇（Socceroos' First Asian Conquest）

１２０分の長い激闘を制して、オーストラリアが韓国を２－１で下して、初のアジア・チャンピオンに輝きました！
Australia beat South Korea 2-1 after playing tough 120 minutes game and reigned as Asian Champion for the first time!

決勝戦にふさわしく、生まれた三点のゴールはいずれも素晴らしかったです。
The three goals scored in this match were all praiseworthy to call this game as a final.

僕個人この大会の試合はほとんど見て、このマッチが間違いなく一番だと思いました。
I watched almost all the matches of the AFC Asian Cup 2015, and I thought the final was the best.

特に、ソン・フンミンの９０分終了間際の同点ゴールは「気持ち」の一言に尽きると言っても過言ではないです。
Especially, South Korea's Song Heung-min's goal at the added minutes of the second half was nothing but his "strong will to win the game."

そして、決勝点を決めたトロイジのゴールをおぜん立てした、ジュリッチの粘りのラストパスは「勝利への気迫」を象徴するプレーでした！！
Furthermore, Tomi Juric's hard work trying to deliver the pass, which produced the goal, to James Troisi was "tenacity for victory!!"

経験値の少ない「若い力の強さ」で大会を勝ち抜いたこのチームは、まさにサッカーのチームとしての「理想像」を示してくれました。
Winning the tournament with squad based on "less experienced young players but possess potential" showed the "ideal model" as soccer team.

日本代表もサッカールーズ（サッカーオーストラリア代表の愛称）を見習って若手主体にしてほしいです。
I want Japan to be comprised of young talents just like Socceroos, nickname of Australia soccer team, to strengthened its current squad.
