A worriness is rising in S. Korea -- "our culture is being deprived by Chinese persons, who introduce [Buchaechum] (fan dance) is a Chinese traditional culture in anywhere in the world."
On March 19, Prof. Seo Kyoung-duk at Sungshin University in S. Korea conveyed on his own Facebook account that "Recently, considerable information offerings came to me about [Buchaechum] from anywhere in the world."

Prof. Seo Kyoung-duk pointed out that "Photo(s) showing Buchaechum posted on the website of a French travel agency introducing the recently concluded global event "Carnaval de Nice" had a caption saying [Chinese dancers]."
In addition, Chinese persons also danced Buchaechum in front of foreign tourists at a large parade event held in New York's Chinatown at the end of last month.
Furthermore, during the Lunar New Year period, at the home field of the NBA Denver Nuggets, Chinese dancers, who were introduced as a Chinese dancers team, performed a Buchaechum dancing performance while wearing Hanbok.

Prof. Seo Kyoung-duk stated that "Since this kind of matters are done anywhere in the world, I'm very worried that foreigners may misunderstand that [Buchaechum] is [Chinese dance]" and wrote that "China's largest portal site, 'Baidu Baike,' introduces the Korean Buchaechum in a distorted manner as [Chinese folk traditional dance]."

Prof. Seo Kyoung-duk explained that "Buchaechum is (S)Korean dance using fans as its main material and the Buchaechum created and released in 1954 is the most brilliant and world-famous" and emphasized that "Instead of being outraged only by the faking by China, I will from now on produce a multilingual footage about the history of Buchaechum and spread the fact to people all over the world that [Buchaechum is (S)Korean dance]."
