Two stone statues called "Dol hareubang," which are placed as guardian deities at village entrances on Jeju Island in southern S. Korea, were erected in a park near the shopping district "Korea-town" in Ikuno Ward, Osaka City, and a commemorative ceremony was held on Jan. 28.
According to Ikuno Ward authority, there is a history that a regular sea route connecting Jeju Island and Osaka was established in 1923, and many islanders came to Japan and started to live near what is now Koreatown as factory workers, etc.

They were donated by the local government on the Jeju Island to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the route's opening.
"Dol hareubang" is a stone statue modeling face of old man wearing a hat.
It's made of volcanic rock and protect safety by a pair of "civilian officer" & "military officer."
Ikuno Ward Mayor Akihiro Sujihara said that "I would like tourists to understand the culture and history by viewing the stone statues."
