あれは、20年ちょっと前のことアルよ。
It was 20 something years ago,
ワタシは山篭りしてたアルよ。
I was in the mountain for my training.
すると、どこからともなく赤ちゃんの鳴き声が聞こえてきたネ。
Then out of nowhere, I heard a baby crying.
近くによってみるとそこには、
I got closer to the sound and there you were,
ちっちゃな赤ちゃんが切り株の上にゴロンしてたアルよ。
a little baby lying on the stump.
アヤは小さい時の事いっさい憶えてないでしょ？
You don't remember anything about when you were a kid, do you?

うん。全然憶えてない。でもどうして？
Not at all, but why?
あなたが私を拾って育ててくれたって言うの？
Are you saying that you found me and raised me?

それはそれは可愛らしい子でね。
She was so adorable baby.
抱きかかえると、ワタシの方をじっと見て、そしてとびっきりの笑い声を聞かせてくれたアルよ。
When I took her up in my arms, she was like gazing at me and gave me a very special laughter.
その時ワタシは決心したアルヨ。
And there I made up my mind.
この子をワタシの弟子として育てる事を。
That I raise her as my pupil.
