とっくに秋深い今日この頃ですが、これが我らの夏休み旅行最後の記事になります。笑
私達がデンマークで滞在したのはSilkeborgという街の近く。ここはトーロンマン、自然にマミー化した死体（死蝋というらしい）が1950年に発見された地で有名なんだそうです。発見される場所はいつも湿地帯なのですよね。オランダの義父母の家の近くでも似たようなものが見つかっています。このトーロンマンは前ローマ鉄器時代に生きていたということ。3000年以上も昔？それはすごい。この古い死体を見るため、この街の博物館に行ってきました。
This is finally the last piece from our summer vacation (already in deep Autumn...). The place we stayed in Danmark is Silkeborg. It seems that the town is famous for the Tollund man, naturally mummified corpse. His body was found in 1950 in a swampy bog. A similar body was also found in the Netherlands close to my parents in-law's house. This tollund man lived in the pre-roman iron age. That was an impressively long time ago, maybe more than 3000 years ago? We visited the city museum to have a look at the old dead body....
これがトーロンマン。1950年に発見された状態で展示されていました。残念ながら、本物は首より上、だけだそうです。体の部分はレプリカ。もちろん掘り出されてから、この古い体を普通の大気中で保存するのは至難の業なのですよね。研究者のチームがこの体を保存するために色々実験をしたそうですよ。それも体の部分のカケラカケラを使って。。（なんか想像すると酷い話だなーと思ってしまうのですが、これも科学のため。それがなかったらこの体は今もう朽ちて無くなってるわけですもんね。）彼の足の親指の一つは別の場所に展示されていました。これは当時の保存方法の研究者の家から発見されたそうで、その１世代後の子孫さんが博物館に寄付されたそうです。研究者さん、この切り落とした足の親指を家に持って帰ってたなんて。。。ううっ。
This is the tollund man. He is displayed in the shape he was found in 1950. Unfortunately only the part above the neck is real. The body part is reprica. Of course it is not so easy to preserve such an old body after it is dug up in and put into a normal atmosphre. They did many different experiments for preserving the body by using a piece of a body part (when I think about the situation, I feel very nasty.... but it is of course for science... If there had been no experiment, the body would have decayed..). One of his toes was displayed in a different display in the museum as it was found one of the scientist house one generation later. The scientist had actually brought the cut-off toe back home.... wow...
このトーロンマンの頭部をよく見ると、髭や皮の帽子もキレイに残っているのですよ。顔もすごくきれいで、今立ち上がって歩き出してもおかしくないくらい。表情は穏やかに見えましたが、実は彼は吊られて殺されたようで。この吊られたロープもキレイに保存されて首周りに。。。ううっ。
When you look at the head closely, his beard and his leather hat were also preserved very well. The face part was so beautifully preserved and I felt that it would not have been strange if he stood up and started walking. His face looked very calm but actually he was killed by hanging. The rope was also preserved around his neck..hmm...
何が面白かったって、博物館の中に各国の反響という展示部分があって、そこにテレビ画面があり、日本のテレビ番組が流されていたこと。この遠い国デンマークでちょっと懐かしい気持ちになりました。
What was funny was that they also displayed the reaction from other countries about this Tollundman. There was a TV screen showing a Japanese TV program in the museum. I felt a bit at home in the far away land, Danmark.
