My last blog was still in the middle of house renovation. I assume everybody imagines that our house is now finished , but sadly it isn't . So I can continue this renovation piece some other time.
現在我々、ドイツにおります。夏休みの旅行でデンマークに向かう道中、１泊目。たった一週間の旅なのですが、今年はちょっと特別。だって、今回の旅行は使える足が一本しかない人と一緒だからです。はい。Dropさん、子供達の夏休みが始まるちょっと前に足を骨折したのです。今回の旅行は行けるだろうか、と悩みましたが、行くことにしました。ちょっとだけスケジュールに変更を加えてね。
Currently we are in Germany, at the first stop to go to Denmark for our summer holiday. It is just one week holiday but it is somehow special this year. Because I am traveling with a person with one usable leg. Yes, Drop broke his leg just before our children's summer holiday started. We wondered if we could go forward for this trip, but we decided to go ahead, with a little modification in your schedule.
最初にDropさんに何が起こったか、を説明しておきましょう。夏休みの一週間前（7月10日から15日）、Dropさん、オーストリアに出張に行ってました。あの週は大変だったー。その週は私も珍しく毎晩何かしらの予定が入っていたのです。仕事と家事、子供の世話と、この特別な夜に入った予定をギリギリでこなしておりました。あと２日でDropが帰ってくる！と帰りを心待ちにしていたのです。
First I need to explain what happened to Drop. One week before the summer holiday (from 10 July to 15 July), Drop was on business trip to Austria. It was a tough week for me. I had something to do almost every night in that week. I was just managing my work, all the household tasks, taking care of children and my other tasks I had in that week. Two days to go! I was looking forward to having Drop at home.
13日の夜遅く（12時を過ぎていたので、すでに14日ですが）Dropさんからメッセージが届きました。「足を骨折した。手術が必要らしい。携帯の充電は殆ど空っぽ。」
何！？
でも当時はすごく眠かったので、もう少し情報をくれとだけ返信して、眠りにつきました。次の日の早朝、Dropの同僚から電話がありました。この状況をどうしようか話し合ったのですが、どういう状況かもわからないので、何もできないなということに。とりあえずDropの携帯が充電されて連絡がつくまでは待とうということに落ち着きました。
Late at night on 13th (actually past midnight so already 14th), I got a message from Drop. "I broke my leg. I need operation. My mobile phone is almost empty"
What!?
But I was very sleepy at that time, so I sent him a message asking a bit more information and fell a sleep. Early morning on the next day, I got a phone call from his colleague. We discussed what to do, but we couldn't do anything because we didn't have detailed information. What we decided was to just wait until his phone is charged and we can get in touch with him.
結局、Dropと一緒に出張に行っていた同僚が彼の荷物をホテルから病院に持ってきてくれて、ようやく連絡がついたのはその次の日の午後でした。この事故の日、この出張先は一日中雨だったそうです。学会の懇親会ディナーが結構高い丘の天辺にあるレストランであり、ディナー終了後、このレストランからホテルへ戻ろうと丘を下っている時にDropさん、この急な坂道で滑って転び、その際に左足がどこかに引っかかって全体重がそこに乗り。。。ボキッと。状況はまあそんな感じのようです。
In the end, the colleague who went on this business trip together with Drop brought his stuff from the hotel to the hospital and we finally could contact him in the afternoon next day. Before the accicent, it had been raining the whole day in the place where Drop was. They went to the conference dinner in a restaurant located on top of a hill. When they were done with the conference dinner and walking down from the hill to go back to the hotel, Drop fell and slid down the slope. Somehow his left leg got stuck and his whole weight went on the leg.... the situation was something like that.
左足の膝下の骨が二箇所見事に骨折。救急車で大学病院に運ばれ、そこで手術待ちとのこと。これが金曜日。土曜日には帰ってくる予定だったのですが、帰って来れるわけありませんわな。オーストリアでしばらく足止めを喰らったというわけであります。1日遅れましたが、手術も無事に終わり、左足の骨は金属のいたとたくさんのネジで固定されました。足はギブスで固定。さて、次の問題は、どうやって帰ってくるか、です。
His lower leg was broken in two places. He was brought to a nice university hospital by ambulance and was waiting for his operation. The result was, of course, that he couldn't come back as planned. He was stuck in Austria for a while. After one day of delay, he successfully got his operation. His bone was fixed with a metal strip and a lot of screws. He got a plaster cast around his leg. The next question remained how he could come back.
この手術後は足を下に下げて長い間座ってはいけないということで、Dropさん、足を上げた状態で帰って来なければなりませんでした。どうしたらいい？結局特別タクシーで帰ることに決めました。かなりの長距離でした。保険会社が手配した特別タクシー、Dropさん半分寝転んだような状態で、足を上げて乗れるものだとか。一台のタクシーがオランダから一日かけてオーストリアまで迎えにゆき、次の日にDropさんを乗せて帰ってきました。全16時間の旅・・・。木曜日の夜中に帰ってきたので、予定から5日遅れのご帰還です。
Since he was not allowed to sit his leg down, he needed to travel back with the leg up. So what can he do. In the end, he decided to take a special taxi to come home. It was a looong way. The insurance arranged a special taxi that so he could travel with his leg up from the Netherlands. One taxi came all the way from the Netherland to Austria and took Drop home on the next day. It was total 16 hours of traveling time. The returned on Thursday, 5 days after what he had planned to come home.
と、これがDropさんの骨折の経緯でした。それから約一週間後、地元の病院に行きました。ギブスもとれ、縫い糸も傷の留め具も全て取り外されました。ギブスの代わりに、足が固定できるプラスチックの長靴のようなものをいただきました。お医者さんは、旅行は行ってもいいけど、絶対に折れた足に15kg以上の重みをかけてはいけないよと。というわけで、旅行は決行となったわけであります。もともと予定していたのも8月の末でしたしね。行き先は、デンマークの本場、レゴランド！
So that was the story of Drop broke his leg. After a week or so, we went to a hospital close to our house. The cast was removed, all staples and stitches were also removed. He got a special plastic boot to fixate his leg. The doctor said that we may go to our holiday if Drop doesn't put more than 15 kg of weight in his broken leg. So... we decided to have our trip that was planned anyway for late August. The destination is again Legoland in Denmark!
