今年も野菜の家庭栽培をスーパーAHのmouestsuintjeで始めた私です（Moestuintje 2018）。結果は今の所すごく残念なもの。植物達があの小さな入れ物ではすごく良く育ったので、庭に直に植えてみようと試みたわけです。人参は特にすごい細くって弱そうだったので、小さなグリーンハウスに入れてあげました。
I started my vegetable farming this year, as usual, with AH moestuintjes. (Moestuintje 2018) The results have so far been very dissapointing. Since all plants grew pretty well in their small containers, I decided to re-plant them in our vegetable patch directly. The carrot plants looked very sensitive, then I re-planted them in a small greenhouse.
ある日、グリーンハウスを開けてみました。「あれ？ちょっと数が少ない？」でも他に何も怪しいところは見当たりません。お水をあげて、再び蓋をしてあげたのです。数日後、蓋をまた開けてみました。。。。何にもない。人参が一つもない！！土をよーくみてみると、何とそこには小さな小さなナメクジ達がいたのです。これらが私の可愛い人参を食べたに違いない！
One day, I opened the greenhouse. "Oh? The number of carrot plants is fewer??" But they didn't show any strange signs, so I just gave water and closed the lid again. A few days later, I opened the lid again.... There was nothing... No carrots at all!! When I had a close look at the soil, there were some small slugs... Oh, they had eaten my lovely carrot plants....
その後、奴らは私の小さなトマトの苗を食べ、さらにヒマワリの苗まで食べたんです。我らもちょうど日本に行ったりでお世話をできなかったので、結局全ての「Moestuintje」は死んじゃった/なくなってしまったわけであります。
After that, they also ate my tomatoes, and even the sunflowers! Together with the lack of care due to our vacation in Japan, all my "moestuintje" plants are basically gone.
天気が良くなったので、今度は大根とごぼうの種を庭に直巻きにしてみようと思いました。数日後、すでに大根は芽が出てきました。「やったー！」今年の春はあったかく、その暖かい日も数日間は続いたのです。大根の小さな苗はすくすく伸びて、本葉が出てきそうになっていました。ここで、春は終わり（のような気がした）。雨模様で空もグレーな日々が数日続きました。再び私の可愛い新芽達をみようと外に出てみると、やっぱり数が減っていたのです。で、もちろんのこと、数日後全て食べ尽くされておりました。憎っくきナメクジに。。
ナメクジなんて、大嫌い！大嫌い！大嫌いーーーー！！！
After the weather started getting warmer, I decided to seed some Japanese horseradish and burdock in my vegetable garden. A few days later, I saw the small sprouts of the horseradish. "Yappi--!" We are having a very good spring this year and it continued to be very warm day for a while. My horseradish grew very quickly and started getting real leaves. Then our spring was over (at that time). It started raining and was gray for a few days. When I went outside to check my lovely plants, I noticed that the number was decreasing again.... Then, one day all were gone.... due to slugs.... I hate them. I hate them. I hate them!!!
しばらくした後、ちょっと遅いかなとは思ったのですが、また小さな容器から種まきを始めてみる事にしました（そう簡単に諦めませんよ、私）。計画としては、その子達が大きく育ってナメクジの攻撃にも耐えられるようになったらまた庭に植え直そうという事でした。で、その大きな苗を庭に写すときにまた大根とごぼうを植えてみようかなと。芽が出てきても他にも一杯あったらナメクジアタックも新芽に集中しないかなと。もしくはゴージャスなご馳走をナメクジさんに用意する事になるのか。。（ま、一杯あったら少しくらいは生き残るでしょう。という事で。）
A while ago, a bit on the late side, I started again to seed some plants in small pots (I don't easily give up). My plan was to wait for them to become big enough to survive the inevitable slug attack. Then, once I had re-planted them in my vegetable garden, I would try again to seed horse radish and burdocks. At least there will be more targets for the slugs is not only one, hopefully that can spread the damage. Or, I can provide a gorgeous feast for lots of slugs... (But if I have a lot of plants, some may yet survive?)
そんな中、この話を同僚にしてみると、皆口を揃えてナメクジにはビールトラップがいいよと教えてくれました。私のナメクジへのリベンジの始まりです。私の植木鉢の苗達が庭へ植え替えても良い大きさになりました（私が思うに）。庭の畑部分の土を整えて。。。また大根とゴボウの種を植えました。そして、皆が勧めてくれたビールトラップをいうものを仕掛けてみたのです。
Meanwhile, I told about my failure to my colleagues. They all recommend I set up a beer trap for slugs. The day of my counterattack had come. I judged that my plants were big enough to go to the garden. I also made a good bed again and seeded some more horseradish and burdock. And installed the beer trap that everybody recommends....
左は大きくなった苗（ちなみにズッキーニ）。右の写真の右部分をご覧ください。白い四角い部分があるでしょう？これがビールトラップです。近くで見たのが下の写真。ビールを入れたばっかりなので、まだ泡がいっぱいです。
You can see them on the right. There are two white squares. They are the beer traps I made. When you see closely, it looks like below. The beer was fresh. It was quite bubbly.
次の日はちょっと曇り気味でした。どうなっただろう？とビールトラップを見に行ってみると。。。ものすごかった。。グロテスクなものを見ても構わない方は右の小さな写真をクリックすると大きくなります。もし気持ち悪いものは見たくないなら大きくしない方が良いかと・・・。
Next day was a bit gray. When I went to check what happend on my beer trap..., it was incredible! If you like to see something grotesque, you can click the right picture below to enlarge it. If you don't, better not to....
ナメクジでいっぱい。。でもなぜか一個だけ。もう一つは完全に空っぽなのです。
Full of snails.... but only one of my traps. The other one was absolutely empty....
何で一個だけ？何でもう一つは空っぽなんやろう？その次の日見ても状況は同じでした。不思議やわ。。
Why is it empty??? It was the same the next day.... Mysterious....
ま、謎は残るものの、とりあえず私のビールトラップは大成功と言って良いでしょう。あとはこの超気持ち悪いナメクジのビールスープを取り除かねば・・・。おえっ。。。ま、これも家庭菜園の仕事の一部ということか。。
But anyway my beer trap seems to work. It will be extremely disgusting to remove all the drowned slugs in their beer, but that is also a part of my gardening....
