DANBURY, Conn. — FuelCell Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq:FCEL), a leading manufacturer of ultra-clean, efficient and reliable power plants, today announced a two-year order for 70 megawatts (MW) of fuel cell kits from POSCO Power. The total value of the order and other commitments for services is estimated to be at least $129 million with delivery of fuel cell kits beginning in October 2011 and occurring monthly through October 2013. Payment terms include a down payment and progress payments during the term of the contract, with approximately 40 percent of the contract value received by October, 2011. POSCO Power is an independent power producer in South Korea and subsidiary of POSCO, a global steel producer.（続く）

今日は、知的財産戦略本部の会合で大変重要な決定をいただきました。

まあいろいろな本部を、私も出ておりますが、短い時間でこれだけ熱のこもった本部の場面は、本当に凄いなという、みなさんのもの凄い分厚いこれまでの議論を強く感じさせていただきました。

私も国際標準化というのは、大変重要だということで、いろいろな指示をさせていただきましたけれども、今回、この国際標準化戦略と、そして、クールジャパン戦略という、そのことを、本当にですね、戦略としての位置付けで進めていただきました。

「知的財産推進計画２０１１」をこの会合で決定していいただいたことを本当に感謝申し上げます。先端医療、次世代自動車などの分野における競争力についての適応ということを含めた国際標準化戦略ということと、東日本大震災によってややクールジャパンの日本ブランドが毀損されたところもありますけれども、先ほど大変、これもどなたでしたか、「日本人の勇気ある秩序ある行動そのものが、ある意味で日本に対する尊敬として、世界から表明されている」、そのことも広い意味でのクールジャパンとしての大きな財産ではないかと強く感じております。

そういった意味で、これもどなたかから、「良いものは作ったんだから、あとは政治と予算をつけろ」という声を、何か聞こえましたが、それは、もちろん私自身の責任もありますけれども、我が党あるいは国会を挙げて、みなさんのその思いを実現につなげるよう政治の側でもがんばっていくということを併せて申し上げて、お礼とさせていただきます。どうも本当に御苦労さまでした。

Kuwait sovereign fund subsidiary buys stake in Heliocentris

The company has joined existing shareholders in Heliocentris with the issue of 480,500 new bearer shares at €5.20 per share in exchange for authorised capital.

Life Energy, a Kuwait-based company specialising in renewable energy, also became a stakeholder in the energy storage company through investing in 19,230 new bearer shares at the same price.

Heliocentris gained gross proceeds in the region of €2.6m from the share sales, bringing its share capital up to close to €4.4m. The company said Lang & Schwarz Broker of Düsseldorf supported the deals.

Dr Henrik Colell, CEO of Heliocentris Energy Solutions, said, ‘The Middle East is one of the most exciting growth regions for Heliocentris. With our strong strategic partners, we now have a greater presence in the region, allowing us to drive the expansion of our business even more dynamically.’

NTEC general manager Anas Meerza said the organisation has already laid ‘aggressive expansion plans’for Heliocentris in its domestic home turf in Kuwait and the rest of the Middle East.

Heliocentris Energy has been active in the Middle East for over three years and said in a statement that its latest investments represent significant milestones in its growth strategy for the region. The company said it plans to further increase its presence in the region and expand its customer base and focus on larger projects.

NTEC is said to be fostering the expansion of renewable energies in Kuwait, hence viewing Heliocentris’s clean energy training segment as attractive to this end.

Heliocentris Energy’s clean energy storage solutions are based on a combination of batteries, fuel cells and energy management, listing its shares on the Frankfurt borse.

Australia allocates $106m to Renewable Energy VC fund

The government of Australia has boosted its support of the renewable energy sector, budgeting for a AUS$100m ($106m) Renewable Energy Venture Capital Fund and allocating A$US60m to the new Emerging Renewables programme.

The Renewable Energy Venture Capital Fund is to support early stage renewable energy companies in the country, in order to compete with other energy companies.

The funding allocations were announced by Australia’s Federal Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson, as part of the federal budget.

The upcoming Emerging Renewables programme will be open to geothermal, solar, wind and wave energy technology creators and developers, including hybrid applications. It will be administered by the Australian Centre for Renewable Energy and is expected to open for application in the coming months.

Domestic geothermal company Petratherm has welcomed the latest invigoration of the renewable energy sector, stating that it plans to apply for grant funding for a hybrid project that combines different renewable energy technologies, to complement the A$1.5m in grants it was awarded in state funding.

Its Heliotherm project seeks to combine geothermal, solar and gas technologies to produce base-load renewable power free from the intermittencies associated with some technologies.

NEDOとEUが集光型太陽電池開発で初の共同プロジェクトを開始

　NEDOは、6月1日よりEUと共同で世界最高水準となるセル変換効率45%以上を目指した超高効率な集光型太陽電池の技術開発を開始しました。それに先立ち、5月31日に記者会見を開催。会見ではNEDO和坂理事による概要説明の後、駐日欧州連合代表部のバーバラ・ローデ公使参事官と日本側研究開発責任者である豊田工業大学の山口真史教授より、NEDOとEU初めての共同プロジェクトに対する期待の意を述べて頂きました。

　今後、2030～2050年の市場導入を目指して、超高効率な集光型太陽電池の技術開発に取り組んで参ります。

バイオ燃料ベンチャー 上場

Solazyme Inc., a South San Francisco, Calif.-based developer of biofuels through the use of microalgae, raised $197.55 million in its IPO. The company priced nearly 10.98 million common shares at $18 per share, compared to plans to offer 9.98 million shares at between $15 and $17 per share. It has an initial market cap of around $1.04 billion, and will trade on the Nasdaq under ticker symbol SZYM. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs served as co-lead underwriters. Solazyme had raised over $128 million in VC funding, from Roda Group, Braemar Energy Partners, Morgan Stanley, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Harris and Harris Group, VantagePoint Venture Partners, Zygote Ventures, CTTV Investments and San-Ei Gen. www.solazyme.com
