What does Daniel say is the first ritual for an employee?

-It's a sort of initiation for every employee. You need to see the company's history and connection with the city firsthand.

How many years has Leadenhall Market celebrated in 2021?

- The Market celebrated its seven hundreds anniversary.

Thank you for showing me around HQ. It was exciting to see a touch of the company's long histry. I felt as if I had traveled back in time.

-Indeed. Before coming here, I have wondered why we're headquartered in the middle of the financial district. But I get it now. It's a symbol of a long-established business that WCS has its roots here.

-Exactly. The city of London is the old part of London so it's not meticulously planed, the churches, narrow roads, they all developed naturally with the district's needs. And our headquarters have developed with the city. Speaking of which, this is the  Leadenhall Market. The Market celebrated its seven hundreds anniversary in 2021.
-Wow! The arches of their roof are so beautiful. The cobbled streests are well-preserved too.

The explosion in population during the Edo period led to a huge amont of wast and need for landfill sites. Tokyo bay was apparently easy to reclaim because of its shallow waters.

Valure proposition is a marketing term and it's used to convey what a business has to offer can be beneficial to a client, customer, investor and so on.

pioneering

------

Let me ask you about your experience at the larning institute. What will the goals and characteristic of the trainning program?

- Broadly skeaking our work we look at five areas. So the first area was leadership development. So that was enabling uh people leaders, supporting them to grow and develop. And we had a particular emphasis that arround /and vast / embossed our leadership. And working with the leaders so that they could better coach the/their teams,  and enable the teams and empower the/their teams. The second main area we worked in was around skills, particularely building the skills that we require in the future. So we would think four or five years down the line, how the company might change and what skills we might require at that time and we backtrack to the present and we designed various programs so that we could start working on developing those skills before we acually needed them. Then the third areas was around culture. So the learning institute is also responsible for driving that culture of curiosity, encouraging associates to learn with range with breadth and to actively engage in selfdevelopment and take ownership of their selfdevelopment. And the fourth area was around talent so that I'm supporting assorciates in business critical roles and ensure they have what they need so that they can develop accordingly. And the fifth piece was around external learning. So our activities were not just in-house, not just within the company, but we also run various learning programs with business schools, universities. And the purposes of this was to enhance our EVP, our external EVP. So this means employee value proposition. So this is the value that the company can offer its employees. For example, you promote the great activities or the great benefits, so value that you can bring to employees outside of the company. So by going to universities and learning various pioneering exciting learning programs with them. We are hoping to enhance corporate brand valule so that more young people in Japan would be attracted to our company and would be inspired to come and work with us.

-----

Regarding the fifth point, external learning, I understand that you developed the program jointly with business schools and universities.

Subject: Day one.

Hi Ron.
Today Emily had an urgent business trip to Lyon. So Daniel and his team looked after me. Daniel gave me a tour of HQ. The highligh was a reception rooms in the basement. If we had a place with that kind of atmosphere in our Tokyo office, our customers would be delighted. For lunch, Daniel took me a pub in the city of London. I was surprised to see so many people drinking wine with just something to nibble. Tomorrow I have a meeting with Daniel's team. And the day after tomorrow Emily is going to take me to the warehouse in Gilfer.
Well, that's all for today.

Regards,

Risa

-----

Dear Risa,

Seems like you had a full schedule from day one. I still remember how impressed I was when I first saw that cellar. It was before the warehouse in Gilfer was built. That bacement was the main warehouse and it had such a wide selection of wines that you could have almost called it a wine museum. We need such places in Tokyo. If not a basement. I've already made a request to Daniel. But please push for it from your side as well. It hasn't materialized yet because of the budjet.
Regards,

Ron

I will remind Daniel that we need a place like that.

I'll tell Daniel again that we need that type of place.

-----

Hi Ron,

I see. So the main warehouse used to be an HQ? Actually when I was shown around the basement, I couldn't help but to say that would be nice to have facilities like that in our Tokyo office. At that time I was just expressing my impression. So I will remind Daniel that we need a place like that.
Regards,
Risa.

What did Risa notice seeing the customers in the pub?

-Almost half of them are drinking not alcoholic drinks.

-----

According to Daniel, what percentage of pub-goers is alcohol free?

-Nearly a third of pub-goers in the UK are now completely alcohole free.

------

What else have you noticed about people?
Now you're testing me... Well, I don't know if they drink organic or ordinary wines, but it seems to me that almost half of them are drinking non alcoholic drinks.
A sharp observation indeed. It used to be that most people who came to the pub had a beer or a glass of wine, but nowadays more and more people are ordering non alcoholic drinks.
That's alarming for the alcohol industry, isn't it?
Is is. Yes. According to one survey, nearly a third of pub-goers in the UK are now completely alcohol free. This is particularly true among younger people. They are inclined to practice moderate alcohol consumption.
If this trend is coming from health consciousness, then we need to strengthen oarganik and natural wines. If not go acohol free.
Well, I beg to differ alcohol free.
Let's order our meal before we go deeper into that.

What did Risa notice when she entered the shop?

-She see a lot of people drinking wine with just something to nibble.

-----

What does Daniel say wine mean British people?

- He say that for Brits, wine is often just social drink.

-----

You have opportunities to visit wine bars during your stay. So why not start by visiting a quintessentially British pub?
By all means! I've always wanted to try an authentic pub.

Good. There is a nice one just around the corner.

It's very busy at this time of the day.
I like this lively and cheerful atmosphere. I see a lot of people drinking wine with just something to nibble. Is this a common sight?
Yes. You observe well, Risa. For the French, wine is a complement to food, but for us, Brits, wine is often just social drink. Some people buy sandwiches on their way back to the office and eat them at their desks.
I'd like to learn more about European food culture as these differences should also affect wine preferences.
