Euripides on talking sense

Euripides, the great Greek playwright said this one:

Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish.

America has fine food

You can find fine food in America. Fine food is high quality food. California cuisine is one example. Unfortunately, fast food is much better known.

As hot as the 4th of July

In America, we say as hot as the 4th of July. It's August now, and even hotter. Stevie Wonder built on this
expression when he released Hotter Than July in 1980.

Steven Wright on another word for Thesaurus

Hello,

This quote comes from comedian Steven Wright: What's another word for Thesaurus?

A thesaurus, which he unnecessarily capitalizes, is a book that gives us words that mean the same thing. Look up food and you can find these words: food, meat, bread, provisions, fare, edible, and foodstuff.

We could call a thesaurus a book of synonyms, but my thesaurus presents no options when I search for thesaurus.

Best,

Tom

Do you have a garden with corn in it?

Hello,

Do you have a garden with corn in it? In America, we say "knee high by the 4th of July." That is, your corn should be knee high by the 4th of July.

We never say if we are talking about the knees of short or tall people though.

Best,

Tom
