Balneology
Hello,
We found the word balneology at Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day.
We thought this would be a good word for Japan as Japan is very interested in baths. Merriam-Webster defines balneology as "the science of the therapeutic use of baths."
The word therapeutic refers to the healing of disease. So, a simpler definition of balneology could be the science of using baths to heal sick people.
I had never heard this word before. I subscribe to Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day, but most of the words are just too esoteric for this blog. Esoteric is a good word though.
Best,
Tom

Marie Curie on fear and understanding
Hello,
This quote is from Marie Curie:
Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.
Those are words to try to live up to!

The 74%
Hello,
I read in the newspaper that 74% of Japanese are for gradually phasing out nuclear power. I hope gradually means in the next 10 years, not the next 100.

George Carlin on Freedom Fighters
Hello,
This question is from comedian George Carlin:
Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight?
His answer is a question:
They never mention that part to us, do they?
Food for thought...
