Harry Truman on the economy

This one is from Harry Truman:

It's a recession when your neighbor loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.

Truman does not mention the underpaid. I read in The Japan Times that 40% of Japanese workers do not have full time jobs with benefits. They are part-time, contract workers, temporary workers or something else.

Japan is creating a new society with winners and losers. Japan used to be much more egalitarian in employment. The new, less egalitarian Japan will not create a better society when some people never have enough money. Will the government address this? Will the people demand change?

Probably not, but we can always hope.

Perry stumbles...

Perry is not doing too well. Maybe Romney will be the Republican candidate?

Fish and names

Every country has neat things. (Neat means interesting in a good way.) I like how the same fish has different names
as the fish gets bigger. I can never remember the names though.

House M.D.

If you watch House on television, you may find this quote interesting:

You talk to God, you're religious. God talks to you, you're psychotic.

This one is from Doris Egan. She has a point. You cannot have it both ways. One or the other...

Americans without full-time jobs

Today, 16.2% of all working age Americans cannot find full-time employment. Some of them work part-time,
but want full-time jobs. Some of them have given up on looking, but would look if the economy improved. The biggest
group, of course, is the unemployed who are looking for work. This is 9.1% of working age Americans. The total number
of all three groups is 25.4 million people. This is not good. What are the numbers in Japan?
