Faced with threats to social and urban sustainability, such as resource recycling and environmental conservation, the SDGs were adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015 to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. Efforts for international cooperation are underway. There is an urgent need for effective efforts in Japan as well, and the special wards, which are huge cities with more than 9.5 million inhabitants and more than 12 million daytime populations, play a major role in achieving this. .. The sum of the actions of each entity has a great social impact on the formation of a recycling-oriented society. Therefore, each of the inhabitants, businesses, and wards must work to switch from mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal.
Until now, the ward has promoted various efforts toward the formation of a recycling-oriented society. However, the following issues also exist in promoting further efforts by residents and businesses.
The first is the voluntary reduction of waste to the inhabitants of the ward and the further promotion of resource recycling activities. Since it is difficult to recognize the impact of one's actions on the environment, there may still be few residents who are actively working on food loss and waste reduction. He can be seen as proof that food loss and the heavy use of one-way plastics have become problems these days.
The second is thorough responsibility of the discharger to the business operator. In particular, since the number of businesses in special zones is large, in accordance with this principle, further reduction of food loss at retail stores and restaurants, over-the-counter collection at retail stores and home appliance mass retailers, and reduction of waste at business establishments It is important to strive for.
Then, how should we tackle these issues as a staff member of the special wards? First, the inhabitants of the ward should be aware of the impact of their actions on the environment and be able to continuously work on waste reduction and resource recycling. For example, the food loss per person per day is about 130g, which is equivalent to one cup of tea bowl. Isn't it easier? After conducting such enlightenment, we will disseminate practical methods that can be tackled in daily life. Specifically, in order to reduce food loss, we will make it a habit to check refrigerator stock before shopping, and to reduce waste, we will encourage the use of my bottles and the selection of simple packaging products. However, there are many foreign residents who do not know how to separate waste and resources. Therefore, by distributing leaflets that make heavy use of Japanese and illustrations that are easy for them, and by attaching a QR code to the collection point in the ward, we can link to the notification of the foreigner's version of resource recovery and garbage collection. Make it possible for foreign residents to properly sort. Through these activities, it is expected that the number of residents who will deepen their understanding of the sound material-cycle society and voluntarily work on waste reduction and resource recycling will increase. Second, promote voluntary actions based on the responsibility of the waste generator of the business operator. Factors that cause food loss for businesses include cooking loss, returns, and leftover food from customers in the food service industry. Therefore, encourage businesses to reduce cooking losses and utilize food banks. We also request the food service industry to cooperate in introducing subdivided menus. These cooperating businesses register as food loss cooperating shops, create a map listing the businesses, publish it on the ward HP, or distribute it at stations and shopping districts. This will encourage residents and tourists to use the business. Furthermore, in order to support collection activities at retail stores and home appliance mass retailers, the items to be collected and the place of collection will be made known to the inhabitants of the ward. In addition, we will commend businesses that are making excellent efforts for waste reduction and proper disposal, and will disseminate them as good examples on the ward website and public relations. This can be expected to have the effect of increasing the social value of the business operator and encouraging the voluntary efforts of other business operators.
Collaboration between residents, businesses, and the ward is indispensable for building a sustainable society in the future. Through the above efforts, I would like to contribute to the formation of a recycling-oriented society as a special ward employee.
