いわゆる｢ペンタゴン｣（アメリカ国防総省）のホームページを見ると、
「Official Defense Department statements and announcements.」が、
日々更新されていて、最新とは言えぬが、｢JAN. 8, 2021」の日付で、
｢Department of Defense Announces New Appointments」が出ており、（※ピンク色はリンクあり）
中身は、以下の通り。とりあえず、そのまま全文を掲載しておくとする。

クリス・ミラー国防長官代行（最近トランプによって任命された人物）は、
「the Confederate States of America」（アメリカ南部連合国）、ないしは、
この「the Confederate States of America」に自ら進んで従軍した者達を、
記念する､「DoD」（ペンタゴン）の「items」の命名に関する委員会について、
次の人事（任命）を発表した。こう述べ、なんと、四人の名前を連ねている。（※「四人」である）
「Sec. 370 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021」
（2021年度の国防承認法の第370条）に基づいて、これを任命したのである。

そもそも…｢Establishes a commission to rename or remove all names, symbols, displays, monuments,
and paraphernalia that honor or commemorate the Confederate States of America from Department
of Defense assets within three years｣という上院から提起した｢Section 377｣（第377条）があり､それを、
採択したのが、｢Section 370」（Adopts Senate provision）だ。「to rename or remove」となっている点が、
ミソだ。下院からは、「the removal of confederate names｣（confederate名の削除）が求められていたが、
それを退けたのである。今、｢rename｣を実行するために、四人で構成する委員会を設置したという話だ。
＃要するに、今回のステートメントの中で、「items」と言っているのは、具体的には、
＃｢names, symbols, displays, monuments, and paraphernalia」を指すだろう。しかし、
＃「Items of the Department of Defense｣（＝DoDのアイテム）になっているところが、
＃ドキッとする。意図して、このように文章構成したとしたら、相当に意味深であろう．
＃「DoD」に、「南部連合」を記念する「items」（≒複数の部門）を設ける…に聴こえる。（※空耳であろう）
