本日 (令和4年 [2022年] 1月1日 [土曜日]) の "SPAIA" (スポーツ関連のウェブサイト) に 「データから浮上した新大関候補3力士とは？2022年の大相撲予想」という記事があります。
Today (Saturday, January 1, Reiwa 4 [2022]) on SPAIA, a sport-related website, there is an article on three rikishi who stand chances of becoming ozeki (大関: the second highest rank for rikishi) in Reiwa 4 (2022).
この記事で名前を挙げている新大関候補の三力士は、御嶽海 (みたけうみ) 関 (出羽ノ海 [でわのうみ] 部屋; 東関脇*)、隆の勝 (たかのしょう) 関 (常盤山 [ときわやま] 部屋; 西関脇)、それに霧馬山 (きりばやま) 関 (陸奥 [みちのく] 部屋; 西前頭筆頭) です。
The article cites the following three rikishi as those who may become ozeki: Mitakeumi (御嶽海関) (Dewanoumi Stable [出羽ノ海部屋]; east sekiwake [東関脇]*); Takanosho (隆の勝関) (Tokiwayama Stable [常盤山部屋]; west sekiwake [西関脇]); and Kiribayama (霧馬山関) (Michinoku Stable [陸奥部屋]; west maegashira 1 [西前頭筆頭]).

All the three rikishi above meet those conditions.
しかし、上記の三力士のうち、隆の勝関と霧馬山関にあって、御嶽海関にないものがあります。記事によれば、それは「同部屋に横綱や大関が存在する」ことです。
However, there is one thing that Takanosho and Kiribayama have but Mitakeumi does not. According to the article, that is "having a yokozuna [横綱: the highest rank for rikishi, and any rikishi with such rank] or ozeki in the same stable."
隆の勝関は、所属する常盤山部屋に大関貴景勝 (たかけいしょう) 関がいます。また霧馬山関は、短期間とはいえ、同じ陸奥部屋に横綱鶴竜 (かくりゅう) 関 (現在の鶴竜親方) がいました。一方で、御嶽海関は出羽ノ海部屋で唯一の関取 (せきとり: 給料をもらえる、十両以上の力士) です。
At Tokiwayama Stable, Takanosho has Takakeisho (貴景勝関), an ozeki. Kiribayama had Kakuryu (鶴竜; now Kakuryu oyakata [鶴竜親方]), a yokozuna, at Michinoku Stable, although for a short period of time. Meanwhile, Mitakeumi is the only sekitori at Dewanoumi Stable.
同部屋の横綱や大関と稽古することによって、技量が向上すると共に、学ぶことが多いということでしょう。
It is probably true that rikishi improve their techniques and learn much by practicing with a yokozuna or ozeki in their own stable.
私は御嶽海関に早く大関になってもらいたいと思っています。他の二人も嫌いではありませんが、既に二回幕内最高優勝をしている御嶽海関が関脇で終わるのは勿体ないと思います。
I hope that Mitakeumi will become an ozeki soon. I do not dislike the other two rikishi. However, it would be a pity if Mitakeumi were to end his sumo career as a sekiwake; he already won makunouchi yusho (幕内最高優勝: makunouchi championship) twice, and needs to aim at a higher rank.
* 力士の番付では、東が西よりも半枚上です。従って、例えば同じ「関脇」でも、「東関脇」は「西関脇」よりも上です。
In rikishi ranks, east is a half a level above west. Thus, east sekiwake (東関脇) is ranked above west sekiwake (西関脇) although they are both sekiwake.
