勝南桜 (しょうなんざくら) (式秀 [しきひで] 部屋; 最高位は東序ノ口9枚目; 神奈川県茅ヶ崎市出身) が8月に引退していたことを月刊「相撲」 (ベースボールマガジン社発行; 日本相撲協会機関誌) で知りました。
From the monthly "Sumo" (相撲) (published by Baseball Magazine Company; the official journal of the Japan Sumo Association), I have learned that Shonanzakura (勝南桜; Shikihide Stable [式秀部屋]; his hometown is the city of Chigasaki in Kanagawa prefecture) retired in August of Reiwa 3 (2021). His highest rank was east jonokuchi 9 (東序ノ口9枚目).
彼はいつも序ノ口の最初のほうの取組で出ていた力士で、いつ勝つかと思って注目していました。彼の通算成績は3勝238敗です。
Shonanzakura is a rikishi whose bouts were always held in the early ones of the jonokuchi division in each basho. I was always interested in knowing when he can score a win. His total score as rikishi is 3 wins and 238 losses.
力士としての出世はできませんでしたが、角界で頑張ったことは今後の人生に必ずプラスになると思います。勝南桜の第二の人生での成功を願っています。
Although he was unable to get much ahead as a rikishi, the fact he tried hard in the world of sumo will definitely be an asset in his life ahead. I wish him success in the life after sumo.
