荒磯 (あらいそ) 親方 (元横綱稀勢の里 [きせのさと]) の修士論文に関する記事を「デイリー新潮」で読みました。
On "Daily Shincho" (デイリー新潮), a news website, I read an article on the master's degree thesis of Araiso Oyakata (荒磯親方: formerly Kisenosato, a yokozuna [元横綱稀勢の里]).
荒磯親方は、早稲田大学大学院スポーツ科学研究科の修士課程に1年間在籍されました。令和3年 (2021年) 3月に 「新しい相撲部屋経営の在り方」をテーマにした修士論文で学位を取得されました。
Araiso Oyakata was enrolled in a one-year master's degree course in the Graduate School of Sports Sciences at Waseda University (早稲田大学大学院スポーツ科学研究科). In March of Reiwa 3 (2021), he earned a master's degree from the school with his thesis on "A New Way of Managing a Sumo Stable" (新しい相撲部屋経営の在り方).
この論文で親方は、相撲部屋改革に関して非常に具体的な提案をされているとのことです。その提案の一つは、「相撲部屋に土俵を複数設ける」ということです。現在40数部屋ある相撲部屋は、土俵がそれぞれ一つしかないため、下位の力士が効率的に稽古をするのが難しい、とのことです。
In the thesis, the oyakata reportedly makes detailed proposals for reforming the way sumo stables are run. One of the proposals is to "enable each sumo stable to have more than one dohyo" (相撲部屋に土俵を複数設ける). Each of the more 40 sumo stables has just one dohyo. That makes it difficult for low-ranking rikishi to practice efficiently.
