DPJ Protests Prime Minister’s Television Appearance in Osaka

安全保障関連法案を審議している参議院の特別委員会の理事懇談会で、民主党などは、法案の審議中に安倍総理大臣が大阪を訪れ、民放のテレビ番組に出演したことは国会軽視だと抗議し、来週までに政府に経緯を説明するよう求めました。
At an meeting of the leaders of the select committee of the Upper House of the Diet considering the proposed security-related legislation, the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and others protested that Prime Minister Abe was making light of the Diet by going to Osaka and appearing on a commercial television station program while the committee’s deliberations were in session, and demanded that the administration provide an explanation of the circumstances by next week.

安倍総理大臣は４日、民放のテレビ番組に出演するため大阪を訪れ、４日夜に東京に戻りました。
On September 4, Prime Minister Abe traveled to Osaka to appear on a commercial television program, arriving back in Tokyo that evening.

これについて、安全保障関連法案を審議している参議院の特別委員会の理事懇談会で、民主党などは「われわれは、毎日でも安倍総理大臣が出席して審議をするよう求めているのにもかかわらず、法案の審議が行われている最中にわざわざ大阪まで行って、テレビ番組に出演することは国会軽視だ」と抗議しました。
Concerning this matter, at a meeting of the leaders of the select committee of the Upper House of the Diet considering the proposed security-related legislation, the DPJ and others protested “Despite the fact that we have asked that Prime Minister Abe attend the deliberations every day, he makes light of the Diet by going out of his way to travel to Osaka and appear on television while deliberations on the proposed legislation are being held.”

そして、政府に対して来週８日の委員会までに経緯を説明するよう求めるとともに、納得できる説明がなければ、９日以降の審議には応じられないと伝えました。
In addition, they demanded that the administration provide an explanation of the circumstances by September 8 next week and declared that if a satisfactory explanation is not forthcoming they will refuse to participate in the deliberations beginning September 9.

The last line reads,

＞納得できる説明がなければ、９日以降の審議には応じられないと伝えました。

私は、この審議拒否のような対応を、「国会軽視」と呼ぶのだと考えていました。
I thought “making light of the Diet” referred to that kind of opposition response.

どうやら間違った知識だったみたいですね。
