緊急会見の報告 Report on Urgent Press Conference

参院で審議中の安全保障関連法案に賛成し、早期成立を求める有識者が１３日午後、東京・永田町の憲政記念館で緊急記者会見を開き、法案の意義などについて訴えた。賛同者は３００人を超えたという。

Opinion leaders and experts in favor of the National Security Bills being debated in the Upper House met on August 13th at the Kensei Kaikan in Nagata-cho and spoke at a press conference about the importance of these bills and the need for them to be enacted swiftly. Over 300 supporters were in attendance.

For the information of English readers, the experts included Yoshiko Sakurai, a respected journalist, Satoshi Morimoto, former defense minister under the administration of the Social Democratic Party, Akira Momochi, a constitutional scholar, Osamu Nishi, honorary professor at Komazawa University, and Yoshihiko Yamada, a professor at Tokai University and an expert on issues in the South China and East China seas.



Mr. Momochi pointed out that collective self-defense is allowed under international law and expressed his opinion that the bills under consideration are constitutional. He said it was important to hold this press conference to make the citizens aware of the fact that there are many opinion leaders who support passage of these bills.
