23 イエスが宮に戻って教えておられると、祭司長とユダヤ人の指導者たちが来ました。「昨日、あなたは商人たちを、ここから追い出しましたね。いったい何の権威があって、そんなことをしたのです。さあ答えてください。」彼らはイエスに詰め寄りました。
23 Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”
24 イエスはお答えになりました。「いいでしょう。だが、まずわたしの質問に答えなさい。そのあとで答えましょう。
24 Jesus replied, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
25 バプテスマのヨハネは、神から遣わされたのですか。そうではないのですか。」彼らは集まって、ひそひそ相談しました。「もし、『神から遣わされた』と答えれば、『それを知っていて、どうしてヨハネのことばを信じなかったのか』と聞かれるだろう。
25 John’s baptism—where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?” They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’
26 だからといって、『神から遣わされたのではない』と言えば、今度は、ここにいる大ぜいの群衆が騒ぎだすだろう。なにしろ彼らはみな、ヨハネを預言者だと信じきっているのだから。」
26 But if we say, ‘Of human origin’—we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”
27 結局、「わかりません」と答えるほかありませんでした。するとイエスは言われました。「それなら、わたしもあなたがたの質問には答えません。
27 So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Then he said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
28 ところで、次のような話をどう思いますか。ある人に息子が二人いました。兄のほうに『今日、農場で働いてくれ』と言うと、
28 “What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’
29 『はい、行きます』と答えたのに、実際には行きませんでした。
29 “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
30 次に、弟のほうに、『おまえも行きなさい』と言いました。弟は『いやです』と答えましたが、あとで悪かったと思い直し、農場へ出かけました。
30 “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.
31 二人のうち、どちらが父親の言うことを聞いたのでしょう。」「もちろん、弟です。」彼らは答えました。イエスは言われました。「確かに、悪人や売春婦たちのほうが、あなたがたより先に神の国に入ります。
31 “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.
32 なぜなら、バプテスマのヨハネが来て、悔い改めて神に立ち返れと言った時、あなたがたはその忠告を無視しました。しかし、悪人や売春婦たちは言われたとおりにしました。あなたがたは、それを目のあたりにしながら、なお罪を捨てようとしませんでした。ですから、信じることができなかったのです。
32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

ある教会奉仕で、進むべきかどうか迷うことがある。昨日、兄弟たちとの話の中で、勢いで参加することを表明したものの、勢いでよいのかと。
あまり気が進まない心がある。それは奉仕そのものの中身ではなく、付帯する要素についての気がかり。
しかし、やるべきなのだろうと思う。主の御用。ただ、勢いはやはりよくない。
クリスチャンになって14年経って、いまだに「そこ？」なのだが、今日のみことばは、一つのやりなおしを促されていることであると思う。
進むべきか、進まざるべきか、神にたずねて答えを頂くことだ。
というのは、神にたずねる祈り、というものを、実はあまりやったことがない。
何かの物事を決めるにあたって「祈ってみます」という言葉は、クリスチャンからよく聞く言葉ではあるけれど、自分に関してはそれをちゃんとやっていない未熟さがある。→イエスでさえ弟子選出にあたり一晩中祈った
へりくだり、奉仕や教会へのコミットメントに関して、悔い改めと再出発の時。
