またイエスは、こんなたとえも話されました。「天国は、畑にまいたからし種のようなものです。」
He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.

それはどんな種よりも小粒ですが、成長すると大きな木になり、鳥が巣を作れるほどになります。」
Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

さらに、こんなたとえも話されました。「神の国は、女の人がパンを焼くのにも似ています。小麦粉に、ほんの少しのパン種（パンの製造に使用する酵母）を入れるだけで、パン生地全体がふくらんできます。」
He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds[a] of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

群衆に話をする時、イエスはいつも、このようにたとえで語られました。たとえを使わずには何もお話になりませんでした。
Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.

それは、預言者によって言われたことが実現するためでした。「わたしはたとえを使って語り、世の初めから隠されている秘密を説き明かそう。」
So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”[b]

こうしてイエスが群衆と別れ、家に入られると、弟子たちは、さきほどの毒麦のたとえの意味を説明してほしいと願いました。
Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”

イエスは、お答えになりました。「いいでしょう。良い麦の種をまく農夫とは、わたしです。」
He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.
38
畑とはこの世界、良い麦の種というのは天国に属する人々、毒麦とは悪魔に属する人々のことです。」
The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,

畑に毒麦の種をまいた者とは悪魔であり、収穫の時とはこの世の終わり、刈り入れをする人とは天使たちのことです。
and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40
この話では、毒麦がより分けられ、焼かれますが、この世の終わりにも同じようなことが起こります。
“As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.

わたしは天使を送って、人をそそのかす者や悪人たちをより分け、
The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
42
炉に投げ込んで燃やしてしまいます。悪人たちは、そこで泣いて歯ぎしりするのです。
They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
43
その時、正しい人たちは、父の国で太陽のように輝きます。聞く耳のある人はよく聞きなさい。
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.
