とても面白い話をしてたぞ...
Located between the old capital and the second largest city in Japan, I wasn’t sure if English would be common. After asking this question, I started getting used to people answering “hai eigo”. As luck would have it, my first handful of encounters were good. It dawned on me It’s not actually common.
Through my struggle, I realized as much as I was learning the Japanese language it was also a mutually beneficial experience to whomever I spoke to.
“Eigo daijōbudesuka ?”
“Īe,” a kind fella responded.
[I nervously smiled and began to think aloud in English about the words I was hoping to communicate…]
“Where is. Uh, koko wa Yodabashi station?”
“Where is mmm…” he repeated to himself, “Ah hai koko wa.”
There was an instance of realization for this gentleman and I had been a part of that. This kind of feeling I can’t explain… Not exactly a touching movie moment.. I want to be there and help however possible. Plenty more opportunities like this up ahead!
