Found lots of autumn produce at Namegawa-cho farmers' vender.

 

 

 

A rare variety of persimmon(黒柿). The skin is black and the tip is pointed. Taste not bad.

大津から琵琶湖博物館で琵琶湖一周完結。

From Otsu city to Lake Biwa Museum(琵琶湖博物館), the complete of the round cycling of the Lake.

 

The tall building is the Biwako Prince Hotel.

 

The southern part of Lake Biwa is still eutroph.

 

Seta Karahashi Bridge(瀬田の唐橋), outlet of the Lake.

 

The mouth of Kusatsu river(草津川). The water seemed low in quality.

 

Arrived at Lake Biwa Museum. Round trip complete.

大浦から大津まで84km。

Rode 84km from Oura to Otsu.

 

Departed the guest house (rider's house they say) early in the morning. It was a good accomodation for me utilizing traditional Japanese house.

 

 

The sky was clear.

 

Birds and autumn crickets were whispering here and there before dawn.

 

The color of the air and water changes every minute.

 

 

Saw the sunrise at Nihonmatsu swimming spot(二本松水泳場).

 

 

 

 

Went riding as seeing the clear water.

 

Passed through the old route and town early in the morning.

 

Beautiful grass under pine trees are typical on the west coast of the Lake.

 

Wanted to swim here.

 

 

Hira Mountains(比良山地) and broad paddy fields.

 

The route entered Otsu city and detoured among hill area. The hill climb by bicycle was tough but compensated by great scenery.

 

Arrived at Miidera(三井寺) temple where I made a long rest before checking-in the hotel. Felt sleepy from the long travail, that was also happy.

 

The hotel in downtown gave me the highest 10th floor.

 

彦根から北端の大浦まで。

From Hikone to Oura, the north end of the Lake.

 

The hotel gave me a train view room, as well as the bright remaining moon, Hikone castle, and the surface of Lake Biwa.

 

 

Departed at 8. Morning waves and atmosphere.

 

 

Ships tell the history of surface logistics and fishery. Horikawa(堀川) of the port of Hikone.

 

Visited Isozaki-Jinja(礒崎神社) shrine. Prayed for peace.

 

Mt. Ibuki(伊吹山) seen from the mouth of Amano-gawa(天野川) river.

Found an abandoned wooden boat embedded in the landscape.

 

Mt. Shizugatake(賤ケ岳) is getting closer.

For some time, the route splits from the shore and goes along Yogo river(余呉川).

 

After steep hill climb, reached Shizugatake Tunnel.

 

Met again the lake surface from the hill.

 

Transparent and shining in the afternoon sun.

 

At 4:30 p.m., arrived at Oura(大浦), today's destination.

 

Until 6, did nothing but stayed on the shore. Peaceful.
