中山道には鉄道写真の良い撮影地が多かった。

Since Nakasendo route runs parallel with Chuo line railway, I passed a lot of photo spots for trains. Having no timetable information nor waiting time for a train to come, took some railway pictures without train in the scene. Funny?

Day3 上松から野尻まで

 

Stayed at Tamasa Inn(田政旅館), traditional Japanese style.

 

Morning walk before breakfast. Agematsu station.

 

 

Back hill of Gyokurin-in temple(玉林院).

 

Hachiman jinja(八幡神社) shrine against morning beam.

 

Monument of the twenty third night's moon.

 

Masugata(桝形) bend of the old road in Agematsu post town.

 

In the morning sunlight, visited again the statues of entrance of Agematsu post town.

 

Coincidence to find a very old truss bridge. Beautiful.

 

Got back to the inn for breakfast.

 

Departed the inn and looked back at Agematsu post town.

 

Visited Suwa jinja(諏訪神社) shrine.

 

The yard of the shrine seemed to include an athletic ground of Agematsu elementary school. 

 

The weather until yesterday was not good, but this morning, this clearness!

 

Echizenya(越前屋) Inn near Nezame-no-toko(寝覚の床) valley.

Morohara-bashi(諸原橋), a suspension bridge with wooden floor plates.

 

Kuramoto station(倉本駅), the entrance to Mt.Utsugi(空木岳). Motivated to climb the mountain one day.

 

Colors of mountain green in this season is really refreshing.

Took a rest at Okuwa railway station.

 

 

Okuwa station was allocated by efforts of the people here in 1951.

 

Joyful walking to Nojiri post town, final destination of the trip this time.

 

 

Old Niwataya ryokan(庭田屋旅館) inn in Nojiri post town. Now closed.

 

Arrived at Nojiri railway station(野尻駅).

 

 

Saw a storage of wood material at Nojiri station, although rail transportation of wood had ended.

 

 

Took this train back to Shiojiri.  Only 90 minutes compared to 3 days walking.

 

Took this express train to home.

 

Satisfaction with comfortable fatigue.

Day2 奈良井から上松まで。

Departed the guesthouse early in the morning.

 

Old sake brewery in Narai post town.

 

Climbed to a terrace where Narai castle was built. Appreciated two rice balls the host of the guesthouse prepared.

Back to Narai post town.

Had a morning pray at Shizume-jinja shrine(鎮神社).

 

Entered mountain trail to Torii-toge pass(鳥居峠).

The mist got stronger as approached the pass top.

This road used to be a national road until the tunnel was built beneath.

Passed a trail runner coming up.

 

Mossed statues looked holy and lovely.

 

 

Partly had a pavement by stones.

 

Got back to a village road.

 

Dropped by the steam locomotive preserved near Yabuhara station.

 

Merged to a major road running aside Kiso river.

 

Freight traffic was heavy although it was a holiday week.

Yellow Yamabuki color would be a motif of the trip this time.

Walking continued long after passage of Torii-toge.

 

 

 

 

This part used to be a national road until shifted to a new tunnel.

Honjin(本陣) ancient prime hotel of Miyanokoshi post town(宮ノ越宿) is a replica construction, open free for tourists. 

 

 

This old building is also free to enter, and well preserved.

 

 

 

Walking continued and passed the midpoint of Nakasendo route. Mt. Kisokoma(木曽駒ケ岳) and middle alps range was seen in the rainy weather.

 

Split to a grassy path in Kozawa (Ozawa?) area.

 

 

Crossed Shozawa river(正沢川) with a narrow bridge.

 

Stone monument of moon of the twenty third night(二十三夜), often found in this part of Nakasendo.

 

Among deep valley of Kiso route, this Miyanokoshi post town has rarely wide atmosphere. 

 

Entering Fukushima post town(福島宿), which had a major immigration gate.

 

Saw downtown Fukushima town beyond Kiso river.

 

Passed the gate.

 

Kiso-Fukushima rail station is located upper end of the Fukushima town.

This old rail tunnel used to be a walking road, however now closed.

 

Finally reached Agematsu post town(上松宿), today's destination. Pretty tough walking it was with an umbrella in hand.

今年も中山道の続き。Day1 塩尻から奈良井まで。

Utilizing "golden week" holidays, resumed Nakasendo walking after about one year.
 

Took Azusa #1 from Shinjuku.

 

Came back to Shiojiri station.

 

Walking resumed from Daimon-jinja(大門神社) shrine.

 

沿道で見た美しい麦穂。麦のようだが野生かもしれない。

Beautiful ears of wheat along the road. It looks like wheat, but it may be wild.

 

Welcomed by a pair of old Hirade mile mounds(平出の一里塚).

 

Comfortable walking in an open field of Shiojiri area, although the weather was not fine.

Many stone statues and monuments make pleasure of walking. Place of Hijikake-matsu pine tree.

 

Dropped by an excellent water supply for travellers. Auta-no-shimizu(邂逅の清水).

Found a ruin of railroad tunnel. Chuo line has been reformed and reinforced here and there for disaster preparation.

 

This part of the national road is quiet since completion of new route running parallel.

 

旧片平橋

Katahira bridge, an abandoned civil structure.

 

State-of-art technology at completion in 1935. Beautiful.

贄川のトチ

Old tree of Japanese horse chestnut in Niekawa post town. Age estimates near a thousand year.

 

This Hrasawa(平沢) area has been famous of lacquer craft. 

 

Walked along the stream of Narai river. This water will reach Nihonkai sea after really long distance.

 

Arrived at Narai post town. Weather was good temporally.

 

Vehicles are restricted on the main street of Narai-juku. Good management.

 

Had a great dinner and stay at Ikariya guesthouse.

 

Buildings here including the guesthouse have unique formation of long "eel's bed".
