米オリンピック競泳のシモーネ・マヌエル（Simone Manuel）は、アスリートが試合で負けた直後にメディアのインタビューを受けることについて、精神的および感情的に疲弊させることから、強制されるべきでないと述べている。　　　　　

US Olympic swimmer Simone Manuel says athletes should not be forced to give media interviews immediately after losing a match, as it is mentally and emotionally draining.

アスリートのメンタルヘルスを保護するべきとの声が相次いで聞かれるようになりました。マヌエルは自身のツイッターアカウントに、不本意な結果に終わった一流の選手が「自分たちの魂を全て人々にさらけ出す義務はない」とつづり、「気持ちを消化する時間を取れていないアスリートに対し、負けた直後にインタビューをするのはやめてほしい」と投稿したそうです。

There have been a series of calls for the mental health of athletes to be protected. 

Manuel posted on his Twitter account that top athletes who have suffered a disappointing result "are not obliged to bare all their souls to people" and that "we should stop giving interviews immediately after a loss to athletes who have not taken the time to digest their feelings".

欧州南部ギリシャが今夏、猛烈な熱波に襲われており、最高気温が40度を超す日が続いています。AP通信などによると、全土で100件近い火災が起き、50以上の地域で住民が避難したものの、暑さから消火活動は難航しているとのことです。ミツォタキス首相は、熱波は温暖化が一因と指摘しました。

Southern Europe's Greece has been hit by a fierce heatwave this summer, with maximum temperatures hitting 40 degrees Celsius.

According to the Associated Press and other media, nearly 100 fires have broken out across the country and residents in more than 50 areas have been evacuated, but the heat has made firefighting efforts difficult. Prime Minister Mitsotakis attributed the heatwave in part to global warming.

嘘を見破る犬

新しい研究によると、犬は、子供や猿やチンパンジーなどの動物よりも、人が嘘をついているのかどうかを見破ることができる。

Dogs can spot whether people are lying better than children and animals such as monkeys and chimpanzees, according to a new study.

オーストリアのウィーン大学が260匹の犬を対象に実験研究を行った結果、犬は人間のついた嘘を見破ることができ、その人間が誠実かそうでないかを見分ける能力もあると発表しました。

過去に同じような実験を5歳未満の子どもや猿、チンパンジーに行いましたが、それら3つのグループは嘘をついている人間を犬よりも信じていたそうです。

The University of Vienna, Austria, conducted an experimental study on 260 dogs and found that dogs are able to detect lies told by humans and are also able to tell whether a person is sincere or not. 

Similar experiments have been carried out in the past on children under five, monkeys and chimpanzees, and all three groups believed the people who were lying more than the dogs.
