Here's an example of how consciousness can change your movements.

Tap your feet.

Clap your hands in time with your movements.

Normally, most people clap their hands in time with the foot that hits the ground. (That's because you clap your hands in time with the sound of your footsteps.)

Now, try focusing your attention on the movement of the other leg (the leg with the knee raised).

That's right, clap your hands in time with the raised "knee."

From that moment on, you'll notice yourself lifting your knee higher.

Humans are strange creatures... they try to match new movements with something that makes a sound at the same time as their movements.
