更に近年、毛髪の成長に関して注目を集めている部位があります。

それが「毛隆起(ヘアバルジ)」というエリアです。

バルジとは、英語で「膨らんでいる部分」という意味。

その名の通り、毛包の中ほどよりやや上にあるふくらみであり

そこには立毛筋という小さな筋肉がついています。

立毛筋は、毛髪を斜めに立ち上げている筋肉

立毛筋は、自分の意思では動かせない不随意筋であり、その働きは自律神経のうちでも

交感神経によって支配されています。

寒さや恐怖、驚きなどで鳥肌が立つのは、交感神経が興奮して立毛筋が収縮し毛穴(毛包)が隆起する現象です。

バルジ領域には、２つの上皮系の幹細胞の居場所（ニッチ）があります。

バルジ領域にある幹細胞は、毛包幹細胞と色素幹細胞。

このうち毛包幹細胞は毛包をつくる細胞であり、毛球に毛のもとになる毛母細胞を供給しています。

色素幹細胞は、髪の色を決めるメラニン色素をつくるメラノサイト(色素形成細胞)のもとになっている幹細胞です。

In recent years, there has been growing interest in a specific area related to hair growth. This area is known as the "hair bulge."

The term "bulge" in English means a swollen part.

As its name suggests, this is a bulge located slightly above the middle of the hair follicle, where a small muscle called the arrector pili muscle is attached.

The arrector pili muscle is responsible for making hair stand up at an angle.

It is an involuntary muscle, which means it cannot be moved by conscious effort.

The functioning of this muscle is governed by the sympathetic nervous system, which is a part of the autonomic nervous system.

The phenomenon of goosebumps, which occur due to cold, fear, or surprise, is due to the excitation of the sympathetic nervous system causing the arrector pili muscle to contract and the hair follicle (or hair bulge) to protrude.

The bulge region contains niches for two types of epithelial stem cells: hair follicle stem cells and pigment stem cells.

The hair follicle stem cells are responsible for creating new hair follicles and supplying the hair bulb with hair matrix cells, which are the precursors to hair.

Pigment stem cells, on the other hand, are the precursors to melanocytes, which are cells that produce melanin, the pigment that determines hair color.
