去年の秋のことになります。
経済同友会のヨーロッパ委員会で講演しました。確か、人材育成の点で、グローバル化の時代で留意すべき事項、などというお題だったかと思います。
そのときの会合に、グレンSフクシマさんも出席されました。少し遅れてこられたようです。
私の講演が終わった後、外国人の出席者の方から、日本人で世界企業つまりグローバル企業のトップを務めている人がいますか？と聞かれました。
私は、寡聞にして知らない、本拠地が外国にあるグローバル企業のトップを日本人が務めているケースは、ないのではないか。と言いました。グローバル企業の日本法人社長が日本人という場合はかなり多いですが。と。
そのとき、グレンSフクシマさんも何かおっしゃった記憶があります。「オイカワさん、さきほどグローバル企業の例としてボーイングの名前を出されましたが、どうか、エアバスの名前をお忘れなく。エアバスはボーイングよりももっとグローバル化していますよ。・・・・」と。私は素材産業や航空機産業のように顧客が大企業に限られる場合をグローバル化といい、単なる国際化とは区別し、その例としてキャタピラー社とボーイング社の名前をだしたわけです。全く他意はなかったのですが、きっと、競合の会社名を出されて、頭にきてしまったのかな？と痛く反省した次第です。出席者の会社を事前に知らされていたのに、こちらはつい思い込みでいつも言っている会社の名前をくちにしてしまったのでした。
自分の思うことがあれば、それについて一ことすぐに率直に意見を言う点など、attitudeは、まさにグローバルでしたね。
