Finding yourself abroad: Self understanding and the intercultural experience![]()
Open lecture, book signing and dinner discussion held at the International House of Japan
Guest Speaker: Joseph Shaules
Description: Experiences abroad can affect our values, make us question our identity, and even shift our view of the world. Yet these changes aren’t always positive or easy to understand because cultural learning involves the unconscious mind. In this open lecture, Joseph Shaules will talk about how to take full advantage of intercultural experiences to achieve personal growth and greater self-understanding. Learn how to avoid common pitfalls. These ideas are discussed in Dr. Shaules’ new book: The Beginner’s Guide to the Deep Culture Experience: Beneath the Surface. There will be a book signing following the lecture. There will be a dinner discussion afterwards (advanced reservation required) where participants will have a chance to share their thoughts with the author.
