reduce to tearsをWeblio辞書で見てみると、「（誹謗中傷などで）泣かせる」とある。また、Colins COBUILDでも「If someone or something reduces you to tears, they make you feel so unhappy that you cry.」(悲しすぎて泣いてしまう)との意味がのっている。
しかし、ここの文脈では明らかに、誹謗中傷などで泣かされたというネガティブな意味ではない。reduce toだけで見てみると「〈…を〉〔ある状態に〕する、変える」という意味がかいてある。reduced to tearsは良いこと悪いこと問わず「思わず泣いてしまった」くらいの意味と捉えれば良いのではないだろうか。
