accountabilityとresponsibilityの意味の違いは少し分かりにくいですね。
英英辞典には
accountability:the fact of being responsible for your decision or actions and explain them when you are asked
responsibility:a duty to deal with or take care of somebody/something, so that you may be blamed if something goes wrong
とあります。
意味は分かるのですが、違いが今一つピンときませんね。
今毎日読んでいる難訳和英口語辞典には
responsibilityは「私には責任がある、私はですが、accountabilityは私こそが責任を負います。つまり「は」と「が」の違いです」と書かれています。
ちなみのこれは松本道弘先生が國弘正雄先生に「accountabilityとresponsibilityの違いはどう説明したら良いのかね」と聞かれた時の答えだそうです。
上記の説明の後に「今ならaccountabilityは、 I did it on my own.ということ、そしてresponsibilityはwe did it on my own.そしてBut I feel morally responsible, too」と付け加えるだろうと書かれています。
似た意味の単語のニュアンスの違いを理解することは難しいですが、面白いですね。
