部隊はポートモレスピの町の灯りが見える地点まで
前進したが、 後方に米軍が上陸飛行場を作り
我が軍は食料を絶たれ やむなく撤退、
何日何日までとか、サラボア海岸まで
集結せよとの命令で
此處まで辿り着くまでに
続々と空腹と病に倒れ
到着した者は駆船挺にて
敵と交戦し乍ら 引揚げて来た。
ラバウルに着き安堵の氣持ちになり
そのまま死んで行った兵もゐた。
被服はボロボロ頭の毛は抜け
口を開けて寝てゐるが 蠅が真黒に止って居る、
トラックで野戦病院に運ぶ、
かっての帝国軍人の姿はなく 銃も銃剣もなく
丸腰である。
