山登りの思い出　Memories of Mountain Climbing

When I was a kid, I loved going on long walks through the forest with my dog. I would walk for hours and hours, and never get tired! There are many reasons why I like hiking. For starters, being surrounded by nature is very relaxing. I can forget all my day to day worries when I am hiking, and enjoy being in the moment. Also, hiking is a very rewarding hobby! Even though hiking for many hours up a steep trail can be exhausting, when I reach the top, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. It is an amazing feeling!  

子どもの頃、愛犬を連れて森を散歩することが大好きでした。何時間歩いても、全然疲れていなかったです！山登りが好きな理由はいくつかあります。まずは、自然に囲まれると心が落ち着くからです。山道を歩くと、日常の心配を一切忘れて、今この瞬間を楽しむことができるのです。また、山登りは非常にやりがいのある趣味です！数時間も険しい山道を歩いていて疲れてきますが、頂上に着くと、達成感を感じます。その気持ちは本当に素晴らしいです！
 

When I first came to Kagawa, I was so happy to find out that there are many beautiful mountains close by, with lots of trails to explore. Today, I want to introduce you to some of my favorite mountains in Kagawa, Tokushima and Ehime.
初めて香川県に来た時に、近くに美しい山がたくさんあると聞いたらとても嬉しかったです。今日は香川県、徳島県と愛媛県にある私の好きな山を紹介したいと思います。

Mt. Goken  Kagawa Prefecture, Zentsuji City
五剣山　香川県、善通寺市

One of my favorite places in Kagawa is Yakuriji Temple. The temple grounds are special because there is a Buddhist temple and a Shinto shrine built right next to each other. It is said that the god of the Shinto shrine, Kangiten, is very powerful! I make sure to visit Kangiten every New Year’s for hatsumode, the first shrine visit of the year.

香川県の中で一番好きな場所は八栗寺です。お寺の隣に神社があるということは八栗寺の境内の特徴です。神社の神様「歓喜天」はとても力強いと言われています！毎年のお正月、八栗寺と歓喜天を参拝します。

Mt. Gozen may not be very tall compared to other mountains, but from the top you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Yashima and Takamatsu City!
他の山に比べると、五剣山はそんなに高くないかもしれませんが、頂上から屋島と高松市の全景が楽しめます！

Mt. Ishizuchi Ehime Prefecture
石鎚山　愛媛県

 
Mt. Ishizuchi was definitely the most difficult mountain I have ever climbed! Besides being the tallest mountain in Shikoku, there are many places where you have the choice between an easy route and a difficult route, where you have to use chains to climb up steep rocks. Of course, we chose to challenge ourselves and take the difficult route! There were many times when I thought, “this is impossible!” but somehow we pulled through and made it to the top.
登った山の中で一番難しかったのは石鎚山でした！四国の標高が一番高い山だということもあり、そのほかには、いくつかの場所で簡単なルートか、鎖を使って登る難しいルートかを選ぶことができます。もちろん、難しいルートに挑戦しました！何度も「これは無理！」と思ったことがありましたが、その恐怖を乗り越えて頂上にたどり着きました。

Mt. Miune Tokushima Prefecture
三嶺　徳島県

 
If someone asked me what my favorite mountain is, I would say Mt. Miune. I can’t describe how beautiful the view is from the top of the mountain. If there is a heaven on earth, I think that Mt. Miune is it. With a view as far as the eye can see, it feels as if you are standing on the top of the world.
もし「一番好きな山はどこですか？」と聞かれたら、「三嶺です！」と答えるでしょう。三嶺の頂上から観る景色は言葉にできないほど綺麗です。もし地球上の天国が本当だとしたら、それは三嶺だと思います。見渡す限りの絶景があり、世界の頂上に立っているように感じます。
