Today was a very busy day! I spent all day getting things ready for a free event that I am planning for junior high school students. The event is called "Let's learn about Canada in English!". I will do a powerpoint presentation about Canada with lots of beautiful pictures introducing Canadian food, nature, animals, sports, traditional art and much more!
今日は忙しい一日でした！私は今日中、中学生向けの無料イベントの準備に取り組んでいました。「英語でカナダを学びましょう！」というイベントです。イベントでは綺麗な写真がいっぱいあるパワーポイントでカナダの食べ物、自然、動物、スポーツや伝統的なアートなどを紹介します！
After the presentation, the students will be making totem poles! Totem poles are made by First Nations people on the Northwest Coast of Canada. Totem poles are often used to tell stories. The animals that are carved on totem poles each have their own special meaning. At this event, students will be making a totem pole to tell their very own story.
プレゼンテーションの後で、生徒さん達に自分のトーテムポールを作っていただきたいと思います！トーテムポールというのは、カナダの北西海岸に住んでいるファーストネーションという先住民が作る伝統的なアートです。トーテムポールはよく物語として作られています。トーテムポールの木から彫った動物のイメージにはそれぞれの特別な意味があります。このイベントでは、生徒さんが自分なりの物語を語るトーテムポールを作ります。
Today, I made a totem pole as an example for my students. I chose three animals for my totem pole that I think match my personality, experiences and the things that are important to me. Here is my totem pole!
今日、私は生徒さんのためにトーテムポールの見本を作ってみました。私の性格、体験したことと、大切に思っていることをよく考えて、それに合わせる３匹の動物を選びました。こちらは私のトーテムポールです！
The hummingbird is a symbol for "love". I put the hummingbird at the top of the totem pole because love is very important to me!
ハチドリは「愛」のシンボルですよ。ハチドリをトーテムポールの一番高いところに置いたのは、私にとって「愛」が非常に大切なものだと思っているからです！
Do you know what animal this is? It is a bear! The bear is a symbol for "teacher". I love teaching and helping people, so I put the bear right in the center of the totem pole.
これは何の動物か分かりますか？これは熊です！熊は「先生」のシンボルです。私は教えることと、手伝うことが好きなので、熊をトーテムポールの中心に置きました。
What kind of animal is this? It is a killer whale! The killer whale is a symbol for "traveler". I have traveled to many countries in the past, and I am looking forward to visiting new places in the future!
これは何の動物でしょう？これはシャチです！シャチは「旅人」のシンボルです。私は以前多くの国に旅したことがありますが、これから新しいところに行くのが楽しみです！
If you had the chance to make a totem pole, what animals do you think you would choose?
