『かいじゅうたちのいるところ』

今日はまたラボパーティで購入した本をご紹介します。
この本は娘の小学校のALTの先生が子供の頃に好きだった本として紹介されていました。
「いたずらをしたマックスが部屋に閉じ込められます。すると,みるみる森や海がひろがり,船に乗ってたどり着いたのは,かいじゅうたちが住む島でした」

私もこのお話が大好きです。
特に最後のシーン。
母と息子、いつもいつも仲良しという訳にはいかないけれど、心の奥には「おかあさん大好き」という気持ちがある。そんな心温まるお話です。
And when he came to the place where the wild things are
they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
till Max said “BE STILL!”
and tamed them with the magic trick
of staring into all their yellow eyes without blinking once
and they were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all
and made him king of all wild things.
という感じで、聞きなれない英単語がチラホラでてくるので、英語を小さい頃から学んでいる子供でも理解するのはちょっと難しいです。
その点、ラボパーティのCDは1センテンスずつ交互に英語と日本語が語られるので、英語を楽しみながらも内容もきちんと理解できます。
