今日も、昨日の X への英語のポストを振り返ってみます。

intervalが間隔。これがa very short intervalなら a の位置はここでいいのですが、as ... as でその間隔がどれくらいか、を述べようとすると、as short an interval as...と a の位置がずれますね。haven't done... in ages で長い間、～してない、ということです。for a long timeのように、「～の間」はforが普通ですが、否定文のときと、最上級がくるときなどは in で大丈夫です。the biggest typhoon we've had in the ten yearsなどです。While (I am) in class, の省略もあります。what it was like to (do...)することが、どういうものだったか、という意味です。Do you know what it is like to live in a country where you don't speak the language? 言葉が話せない国に住むのがどういう感じかわかる？となります。
これは、あれですね。長期間ずっと授業をしているとなおさらそういう気分になるのかも。This is even more noticeable because I had been teaching for many consecutive days and weeks.
連続で、というのはconsecutiveという形容詞を使って、for three consecutive days （３日連続で）などとします。また、in a rowも使えます。for three days in a rowですね。
実は今日授業中具合悪かったんですね。で、症状を思い出しているうちに、今日、花粉症のお薬を飲んでいないことに気づきました。もういい加減習慣になってほしい。

最後は、花粉症。これは文字数でhay feverとしましたが、I am allergic to cedar pollen.スギ花粉アレルギーだ、としてもよかったところです。allergic to...はいろいろ使えますね。I'm allergic to English! とか。また、with my nose stuffed, throat clogged, and vision blurred. の部分は付帯状況を表すwithというヤツですね。as my nose was stuffedのようなbe動詞を含んだ文をwas→being→省略として、with my nose stuffedとしています。文が短く締まるので、こうした文字数の制約があるときにも使えますね。最後の文は、ある意味「修辞疑問文」です。「いくつミスをしなければならないのか」という感じですね。
