あらすじ
第二次大戦終了後のイギリスの植民地の香港で、ヒロインのハン・スーインは勤務医をしている。夫は中国国民党の将校で国共内戦で戦死していた。そこで、アメリカ人の特派員マーク・エリオットと知り合い、二人は恋に落ちる。しかしエリオットは別居中の妻がシンガポールにおり、離婚の話し合いのためシンガポールへ行くがうまくいかず、二人の関係は香港で噂となる。
間もなく中国大陸の殆どの地域は国共内戦の末に中国共産党率いる中華人民共和国が支配するようになり、ハン・スーインは中国大陸へ戻るよう説得されるが、ほどなく朝鮮戦争が起こり、エリオットは派遣されるが、そこで戦死する…
