それを後ろに置くというのが文字通りの意味ですが、
失敗やいやなことは、忘れて、気にしないようにする
という場合に使います
つまり、
to try to forget about an unpleasant event or experience and think about the future
たとえば、
I made the decision to put my marriage behind me, forget
about it, and start over again.
(結婚のことは忘れて、もう一度やり直そうと決心した）
The team have put last night's loss behind them and are looking
forward to next week's game.
