340日目、カボチャとニンジンのハーフ
いつも野菜を買うお店に行くと、硬いズッキーニのようなものが並んでいました。中はオレンジ色でカボチャのよう。でも食感と味はニンジンに似ている。瓜の一種なんだろうな。
8th June (340 days) half of pumpkin and carrotI went to store where always I go to buy vegetables. Something looks like hard zucchini ware lined. Inside color is orange, it also looks like pumpkin. But it has same feel in the mouth and taste of carrot. I guess it may be one of the cucurbit.

毎週月曜のコンサルテーションデー、一人の同僚が休みのため、 数人は私がメインで対応するように依頼されました。責任問題にならないように、診断はせずアドバイスのみ。
9th June (341 days) expansion graduallyIt is consultation day on every Monday. I was requested to take the lead of consultation for some patients, because one of workers was absent. I gave only advice to them not to take the responsibility.

外来リハを担当する火曜日です。9時前から、予定していなかった新患が2人待っていました。一人始めたところで5人待ち。誰がいつ来るか分からないこのシステム何とかならないかな‥
10th June (342 days) system for outpatients
I take care of outpatients on Tuesday. 2 unexpected new patients were waiting before 9 a.m. 5 people were waiting for treatment when I started first patient. I hope this system will be changed that we can’t guess who and when patients come.

6～7年前のガーナの切断者のドキュメンタリー映像を同僚に見てもらいました。毎日切断者を相手に仕事している職員も知らないようなので、海外向けに作られたのかも。
11th June (343 days) preparation for education program
I let co-workers see Ghanaian amputee’s documentary film that is made 6 or 7 years ago. It may be produced as a broadcast for foreign countries, since workers who take care of amputees everyday don’t know about it.

装具＆靴グループのケース会議も継続できています。養成校が休みに入り、若手技術者が参加してくれました。今後、勉強したことを実践でいかしてくれるでしょうか？
12th June (344 days) Continuity is the father of success
Case meeting of orthosis and shoes group is continuing. School is in vacate, so junior technicians joined to the meeting. In the future do they put their learnings to good use in a real case?

ソケットのマネジメントに関する問題が絶えません。材料不足から仮義足には中古のソケットを使うことがあります。足に合ったソケットが良いのは確かだけど、材料が無いのはどうにもなりません。メリットとデメリットを考えて方針決定しないと。
13th June (345 days) Issues of socket
There are some problems about management of a socket. Because of lack of materials, they sometimes make prosthesis with used socket from abroad. It is true to make original one that fit patient's leg, but we can't do anything without materials. We have to decide with considering merit and demerit.

347日目、イスラム式結婚式
結婚式のセレモニーに参加させてもらいました。金曜土曜はイスラムの儀式、今日は広場でパーティーです。5人が異なる種類の太鼓を叩き、シンガーがコーランに似た雰囲気の歌を歌います。そして参列者が出てきてダンスをします。女性が少ないと思っていたら、隣の会場で新婦さんと女性たちのパーティーが行われていました。イスラム教の文化では、結婚式であっても男性と女性のセレモニーは別々なのです。
15th June (347 days) Islamic wedding ceremony
I joined wedding ceremony. They had Islamic formal ceremony on Friday and Saturday. Then today they held a party outdoor. 5 people played the traditional dram and singer sang a song that sounds like a Koran and attendants danced. The number of women was less, because a bride cerebrated with women in next open space. In the Islamic culture, they separate cerebration for men and women even if it is a wedding party.

今日は配属先が運営している義肢装具養成校の入学試験の日。筆記試験と面接試験で60名の受験者の中から20名の合格者を出すようです。
16th June (348 days) examination for entry
Today is the day of entry examination for prosthesis and orthosis school that managed by my workplace. 20 will be passed it out of 60 candidates with writing test and interview.

外来患者さん担当の日は、当日誰が来るのか分からないまま始まります。新規の患者さんが突然来たり、ずっと通ってきていた患者さんが都合で来なかったり。予約システムというものがないので毎週運試しです。
17th June (349 days) a trial of my luck
I have to start work before I knew the patients who come to treatment on the day for outpatients. Suddenly new patient come, some patients doesn't come because of their own reason. There is no reservation system, so I try my luck every Tuesday.
350日目、映画上映会
ガーナの切断者のストーリーをまとめたドキュメンタリーを入所者に見てもらいました。途中で、障害を持つ人が抱えている問題について聞いてみました。すると、非難を受けるとか、結婚するのが難しいとか、収入を得られないなどの意見が出ました。いつか彼らが困難を感じた時、このストーリーから感じたことが何かの原動力になったらいいなと思います。
18th June (350 days) screening film
I introduced inpatients a documentary of Ghanaian amputee's story. I asked them a question about difficulties that people with disabilities have. Answers are stigmatization, no chance to marry, no income and so on. In the future, when they are faced with some difficulties, I hope findings from this story will be useful later.

子どもたちの全身運動にと露天で売られている縄跳びを買って見ました。しかし数回まわしたところで取っ手とロープが分解・・さすがガーナ製。想像はできたけどやはりさみしい。

I bought a rope for total body exercise. After rotating a few times, rope and handle were separated. As expected, it was made in Ghana.
352日目、改良松葉杖の効果は
改良松葉杖で練習した子が、退院に向けて従来型の松葉杖を渡されました。見ると肘を伸ばして支えています。腋の下で寄りかかる使い方をしていない！一生懸命お願いして作ってもらった甲斐があった！
20th June (352 days) effect of refined crutchesOne of the children who had practiced with refined crutches had given previous one for discharge. She extended her elbows and held it. She didn't put her shoulder on the crutch! It was worth making it with offer many times to the worker.
353日目、和食で女子会
隊員が作ってくれた手料理で女子会です。お赤飯、こんにゃく、ごぼうのたらこ和え。どれも1年ぶりの味。和食最高！
21st June (353 days) girls meeting with Japanese food
We had a girls meeting with foods that cooked other volunteers themselves. Red bean rice, konjak and burdock root dress with cod roe. I had eaten everything after a year’s abstinence. Japanese food is wonderful!
354日目、隣町は違う言葉
近所のガーナ人のお宅にお邪魔してきました。私の住む地域は、キリスト教徒の人が住む集落とイスラム教徒の集落が道1本隔てて隣接しています。チュイ語という現地語と英語を話す人が多いのですが、訪問したお宅の人はハウザ語という言葉を日常的に話します。ガーナ人の言語能力すごい。
22nd June (354 days) different language in next community
I visited a Ghanaian house in neighborhood. Christian community and Islamic community are contiguous to each other across the road. Many people speak English and local language it is called Twi, but, the person who I visit to use Hausa language. How amazing speech of Ghanaian people!
356日目、隣の集落までお散歩
夕方、街に出る方向とは反対方向にウォーキングに出かけました。川の水で洗車する人、水浴びする子どもを横に見ながら、歩くこと20分、小さな集落に着きました。高台にあるので下に広がる景色がきれいにみえる場所でした。またひとつ、いい所見つけました。
23rd June (355 days) walk to next village
In the evening, I went to walking to the opposite direction to the town. I saw people who washed a car with river water and children who bathed in the river. I arrived at a small village in 20 minutes. That place located on a high point, commanding a fine view. I came upon good place.
356日目、数時間前の骨折
骨折後のリハのため週1回通ってきている患者さんが、朝転んで病院に行ってきたとのこと。右腕をみると大きく腫れています。X線でも明らかに骨幹部骨折と分かります。X線をとった病院で固定してほしい・・
24th June (356 days) fracture before a few hours
A patient who comes to physical therapy once a week said that he went to a hospital in the morning. His right arm was swelling when I saw him. According to X-ray it has been made clear that it was diaphysial fracture. I wish they had immobilized a broken arm in a cast in the hospital where he took X-ray.

海外から送られてきたプラスチック装具を提供していくうちに、左右が揃っていない装具ばかりになりました。装具は左右ごちゃ混ぜで置いてあり必要な物を探し出すのが大変になってきました。そこで、ペアになっていない装具を右足用と左足用で分けました。これで探し出すときのイライラが少し解消されるに違いない。
25th June (357 days) arrangement of items in stock
We provide patients old plastic orthosis from abroad, many incomplete pare of plastic orthosis are piled up on the shelf. It became difficult to find out a necessary because items for right side and for left side are mixed. So I divided incomplete pare of plastic orthosis into right and left. It must be gone irritation.
358日目、ガーナも敗退
ガーナのグループリーグ最終戦、子どもたちと一緒に観戦しました。ちょうどシャワーの時間にガーナが得点を入れたところ、泡だらけの子がテレビのある部屋に走って出てきて大笑い。結局敗退したけどこれでみんな仕事に集中できるから良しとしましょう。
26th June (358 days) Ghana lost in the World cup
I watched a football match on TV with children. That is a final game of Ghana in group league. When they were taking a shower, Ghana scored a goal. One of the children with soapsuds run out to the room where TV is, then we roared laughter. Finally Ghana lost the game, let’s make this do because they concentrate on work.

お揃いユニフォームで全員集合。でも白衣ではなく、ワンピースです。涼しくていいけれど、これで仕事する気分にはならないなぁ。
27th June (359 days) full array of physical therapists
We came together with matching uniforms. But, it is not a white dress it is a one-piece dress. I felt cool, but I wasn’t in the mood to do work.
