It's December...
the Christmas season...
and my favorite time of year.
12月です。 クリスマスシーズン、一年で一番好きな時季です。

This year I have been thinking a lot about darkness and light.
この一年は「闇と光」ということを良く考えました。
We just finished decorating House of Hope with many Christmas lights.
希望の家のクリスマス電飾を終えたところです。
What are all the lights for??
このキラキラしている光はどんな意味があるのでしょう？
A lot of different things happen during this season,
この時季、色々なことが起こりますが、
but Christmas is really a celebration of the birth of Jesus.
救い主の誕生を喜び、お祝いするのがクリスマスです。
The world has been very dark this year.
今年は世界中の人々にとって、とても暗い一年でした。
The world was very dark then, too.
イエス様がお生まれになったその時代もとても暗い時代でした。
Jesus came as a light in the darkness.
イエスは、闇を照らす光として来られたのです。
The Old Testament prophet, Zechariah, told the people about this ahead of time.
旧約聖書のゼカリヤ書では、預言者ゼカリヤがこう告げています。
He said,
Shout and be glad!
The Lord says,
I am coming,
and
I will live among you.
Zechariah 2:10
喜び歌え。
楽しめ。
見よ。
わたしは来て、
あなたのただ中に住む。
主の御告げ。
ゼカリヤ書 2章10節 旧約聖書
John also told the people about this ahead of time.
ヨハネはこれから先に起こることを人々に告げました。
He said,
The true light
that gives light
to everyone
is coming
into the world.
John 1: 9
すべての人を照らす
その本当の光であるキリストが
この世界に来ようとしておられた。
ヨハネ１：９ 新約聖書
Later, Jesus told the people
のちに、イエスご自身が人々にこう語られました。
I AM
the light of the world.
Whoever
follows me
will
never
walk
in
darkness...
but
will have
the light
of life.
John 8:12
わたしは、
世の光です。
わたしに従って来る人は、
決して暗闇の生活をすることがなく、
いのちの光を持つことができます。」
ヨハネ8：１２ 新約聖書
Many years earlier, the Old Testament prophet Isaiah also wrote about this event.
これよりだいぶ昔に、旧約聖書の預言者イザヤがこのことに関して書き記しています。
The people walking in darkness
have
seen
a
great
light...
On those living in the land of the shadow of death,
a
light
has
dawned.
Isaiah 9:2
暗闇の中に生きている人々は
大きな光を見、
死の暗黒の地に住んでいた人々に
光が
照らされた。

Whatever
kind of
darkness
you are in,
there
is
hope.
