まいにち、おじいさんは山へしば刈りに、 Every day, Ojiisan went to the mountains to gather firewood,
おばあさんは川へ洗濯に行きました。 and Obaasan went to the river to wash clothes.
ある日、おばあさんが、川のそばで、せっせと洗濯をしていますと、 One day, she was busily scrubbing the clothes by the river
川上から、大きな桃が一つ、 when a big peach came floating down the stream, bobing up and down.
「ドンブラコッコ、スッコッコ。 "Donbura kokko, Sukkoko.
ドンブラコッコ、スッコッコ。」 Donbura kokko, Sukkoko."
と流れて来ました。
どんぶらこ： 大きくてやや重みのある物が水に浮き沈みしながら流れるさま。
